Nossa casa é uma casa de fazenda do século XIX apoiado por um prado dois acres que leva até 200 pés de costa privada em uma enseada de água salgada. É um local muito tranquilo, sem outras casas à vista de um presente. House tem charme e prateleiras de livros bem abastecido. Há várias trilhas para caminhada nas proximidades e nós somos apenas uma unidade de quinze minutos para Haystack Escola de artesanato ou Stonington. Nadar ou amêijoas cavar na enseada.

Cozy, peaceful vacation spot

This is a quaint New England farm house with a large meadow backing up to a quiet cove. Very quiet & peaceful, with lots of room for our 2 young dogs to run, play & swim. At low tide you can dig for clams, and at high tide you can canoe or swim in the surprisingly warm water right behind the place. We enjoyed campfires in the back yard at night, cooked on the charcoal grill, and perused the impressive and varied assortment of books all around the house. Close by are wonderful hiking trails in the several properties of the Island Heritage Trust. We saw several deer on & near the property, and an eagle flew low right over the meadow on our last day there! The owners kindly provided us with a list of tips for places to go while on Deer Isle. I'd add to that: don't miss the Farmers' Market in Stonington on Friday, there is a lobster pound 3/4 mile down the road, and stop by as many of the working art galleries around the island as you can find open. This is not the place to vacation if you are looking for spectacular night life, arcades, and chain restaurants! But if you want a beautiful space for a peaceful, refreshing vacation for you & your family (and your energetic dog!), then this is your place.

character, poetry, beauty

We have vacationed at this house several times. We love it unconditionally. It is a real house, with character, beautiful proportions, a nice eclectic mix of furniture. It oozes poetry. The view out the kitchen window to the meadow, morning coffee and evening wine and grilling on the deck, sitting out by the cove at all times of day, all the period details of the house, the wonderful books in the shelves of every room, the disposition of the windows and the light, the cozy living room with a wood burning stove. It is like being in a dream of an ideal childhood vacation. Bring your kids. It will do permanent good for their souls. This house is extremely healthy and beautiful. It is not a Marriott. If you want cable, wifi, heated towel racks, don’t come here. But it is perfectly clean, and the bathrooms pose no difficulties even worth considering. Ten minutes away is a large, beautiful pond where I take long swims. Right out the front door there is gorgeous bike riding on lightly trafficked roads with wonderful views of old farms and coves. I cannot think about this house without becoming happy.

Needs Updating

This early 1900's property is in need of some maintenance. The setting is wonderful but the house has numerous shortcomings one of which is a shower that you cannot get out of the spray. To get to the upstairs bathroom you have to go through a bedroom, once in the bathroom you have to be careful to not hit your head on the low angled ceiling. The bedding was old and uncomfortable(read backache) with the one double bed placed up against the roof line making it unusable for a second individual. The furniture downstairs was old , dirty and uncomfortable. I must say all the plumbing worked fine along with the newer stove and the apartment sized refrigerator(14-15cf.). There are window fans for the upstairs rooms but no where to plug them in(need extension cords) as I believe this house was built before electricity was common. Cell service is spotty but did work, there is no TV or Internet to get a good weather report. I have been renting properties for the last 5 years and this is one that I would not rent again. We went there to go kayaking and that was wonderful. Deer Isle is not real touristy with Stonington being a working lobster port which we found very attractive, Fisherman's Friend in Stonington has excellent food.

Resposta do proprietário: We just saw your posting on Home Away and were hoping we could come to some sort of resolution. We've been renting our home on Deer Isle through Home Away for 14 years and have never received a negative posting. There have been times when people have emailed or called during their stay to let us know that something wasn't quite right and we have always been able to find ways to make things more comfortable for our guests. If we don't receive communication about issues during a stay it is completely out of our control to help the situation. We make every effort to advertise the house as it is. It's not perfect but we find that people like its charm and traditional New England farmhouse aesthetic and because it is a summer house find that the size of the fridge accommodates most people's needs for their short stays without taking up too much room in the dining room. We have a television in the house for folks to watch films during the evening but don't think it's necessary to supply cable to visitors to Deer Isle who come for the landscape and recreational opportunities such as kayaking as you mentioned. As far as the comment about the furniture being dirty, we are sitting here scratching our heads. The couch cover and pillows were replaced in July and our cleaner who spends 2-3 hours between each rental is instructed to pay specific attention to these types of issues. Again, if you had called when you got there we would have happily sent her over for a few more hours to clean to your standards. Outlets can be difficult to find, but we make sure to leave extension cords for fans and lamps. Of course, these do have a tendency to be packed up and taken home from time to time and if you had let us know we would have been more than happy to have a few brought over. We have friends and family in the area who are more than happy to help. As far as the beds go, we routinely receive emails from renters telling us how well they slept during their stay. You put us at a disadvantage by not letting us correct anything during your stay. We understand if the house wasn't to your taste, which is unfortunate, but it seems unfair to completely discredit the property entirely. We hope that you will reconsider your post.

Lovely, peaceful, house for a relaxing vacation

We stay at this house every summer for a week in June. It's a lovely house with very traditional Island feeling. Mornings are spent on the rocks at the edge of the meadow with coffee and a book watching birds and the occasional clammer. Deer are frequently seen in the 2 acre meadow from house.

Taking the canoe out into the cove at high tide is always a highlight as are accessing the nearby Tennis Preserve, Shore Acres Preserve or the Haystack School for Mountain Crafts for walks and swims. We highly recommend Nervous Nellies Jams and Jellies for coffee and a scone and a walk around the quirky sculpture garden about 1.5 miles from the house.

There's lots of space for dogs to run, children to play and a great porch for barbecues.
