A localização é perfeita (no coração da melhor rua do Capitol Hill) para alguém em uma viagem de negócios estendida e / ou férias que prefere um ambiente diferente vs. um quarto de hotel, e quem vai tratar a nossa casa como o seu próprio durante o curto prazo fique. A casa está localizada em uma St. histórico que é calmo, seguro, e uma curta distância (blocos) para o famoso Mercado Oriental, Capitol, o Supremo Tribunal, Biblioteca do Congresso, Senado, etc. Também a uma curta distância são lojas, restaurantes, mercearias, duas estações de metrô, clubes de jazz, casas de café, limpeza a seco, Shakespeare Theatre, eo famoso National Mall, onde você pode visitar os museus Smithsonian para livre que incluem a National Gallery of Art, Museu de História Natural, Air and Space Museum, etc.

A real home from home

This is the most beautiful property, and literally has just about everything you could possibly need. Lovely decor, clean, well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and right on the Capitol Buildings doorstep. Very cosy with a kitchen, wc, and dining room downstairs and a living room, bedroom and full bathroom upstairs. Also a washing machine and dryer for small loads of washing. A bonus for me was the little garden area outside where I could smoke. The amount of information provided by the owner is phenomenal - everything from take out menus to restaurant recommendations, maps, brochures on different attractions and he also provided metro smart trip cards which you just add money to and you can use on all transport in the Metro area. Very useful. And the welcome bottle of wine left for us was gratefully received. The house is behind the main street and pretty easy to find and the Eastern Market area is literally a 5-10 minute walk for restaurants, diners, CVS pharmacy and the Metro. The Capitol building is about an 8 minute walk the other way. Very close to all the National Mall attractions including the Smithsonian museums and everywhere else is very easy to get to using the Metro bus or rail. Very safe and friendly area too. Diner just across the road and two little grocery stores in a 2 minute walk. The listing for this property was very accurate and we could fault nothing. The pre-holiday information package that we received from the owner covered everything we could think of and was very helpful. We really felt we'd struck lucky with this little house, location, condition, equipment and information provided were all completely spot on. Loved it and, not only would we recommend it to other people, we are hoping to return to Washington DC in a couple of years and will not be looking for anywhere else to stay. It was perfect for us.

Location, location, location...

The carriage house at the rear of the main flat is awesome. It is located in a nice, safe neighborhood that is a short walk to the U.S. Capitol. We enjoyed the amenities provided by the owner and the cozy feeling of the home.

I would highly recommend this property to all who visit Washington, D.C. It is walking distance from the Mall and all there is to see in the area. There are many good restaurants and pubs also within walking distance.

Ken answered all questions we had and welcomed us with a nice bottle of red wine. Don't miss out on the opportunity to experience this fine property and neighborhood.

Great location, well maintained.

We packed quite a bit into 3 days in DC. We felt completely safe walking in the evening in the neighborhood near the carriage house. After a long day walking we just stopped at one of the restaurants nearby before we called it a day. We did the Guy Fieri restaurant tour.

Carriage House was pleasant and accommodating.

Very comfortable and close to so much.

We were very impressed with the neighborhood and loved the carriage house. Had all of the anemities. It was so nice to come "home" and relax after a day of

sightseeing . Would certainly recommend it.

If you like the Heebie-jeebies... This is the place for you.

Let me start off by stating that the property owner will have backlash from this review.

The first flag was my fault for overlooking the fine print but the owner will want either your SSN or Drivers License number for verification (even though you booked through HomeAway and have already paid in full).

After booking on HomeAway, I was further instructed to send a text message to the owner once we checked in... second flag but too late to get out of the arrangement.

After arriving past the check-in time, one of his contractors tried to barge in on us. I then locked the doors. A few minutes later, the owner himself unlocks the door and barges in with his contractor (after I already texted "Dad" to tell him that we were in his unit AND after the check in time).

We got past that after an elevated heart rate but didn't spend much time in the unit because there are notes all over the place stating that no furniture should be moved and any silverware or dishes shall be put back in the exact place (or your deposit will be jeopardized). Hell... I don't even know where everything goes in my house when I put the dishes away for my wife... let alone someone else's place. This being said, we didn't dirty a single dish and didn't feel at home by any stretch. On top of this, please do enjoy reading the comprehensive list of items that the owner has documented on his "inventory list" and the threats if a single item is either "missing" OR "moved and not put back in the EXACT location."

The Owner will write back and state that we didn't follow check out procedures. True but for a good reason... Item 7 on the list states, "Leave the keys on the dining room table... ...Do NOT remove the lock box on the outside of the door and/or bring the lock box into the carriage house.

The problem... the damn thing was broke so my options were to either 1) obey Dads orders and leave the key in the lock box so anyone could get the key or 2) leave a note for the cleaning folks alerting them the issue... By this time, I didn't want to have any more interaction with the owner.

I told my wife that I was going to submit my first HomeAway review and then I retracted because everyone is busy and really didn't want to waste any more time on this individual/listing.

However, that changed when "Dad" started reprimanding me over text messages and emails a week after we had already evacuated his property. I have kept every text and email between us for proof.

Resposta do proprietário: The review by this guest gave me the Heebie -jeebies. Largely because I could not reconcile the complaints with the reality of the use of our carriage house. Occasional we get a guest that is difficult, yes it happens. This time we got one that could be labeled as a paranoid schizophrenic. The guest refused to go along with any of the “House Rules” in the Rental Agreement. My first clue was he refused to fill out and complete the rental agreement that asked for some sort of government ID. The request isn’t a biggie, since I’m giving the keys sight unseen to someone that lives 2K miles away. He also didn’t show his ID as promised upon arrival as a work around of his paranoia. Within minutes of arriving on sight he decided to light up some “herbs” (legal in DC but not allowed in my house as stated in the House Rules). I had arranged to meet a contractor to provide an estimate on some improvements to the rental unit before his arrival. I have no idea why the contractor left his notebook in the unit. Of course, he needed to retrieve it. He reported that I barged in, but isn’t how I remembered our encounter. I’m sure that I knocked and rang the doorbell. There is a Check Out list of things to do before leaving. Most are common sense; the list is on a cork board along with an “Inventory” of the contents of the house. Most folks think that’s a good idea, not my renter who took offence at this list and the Inventory, go figure. We use a lock box so that each guest can self-check in and out. One item on the list asks that you DON”T remove the lock box from the outside door. He not only removed it but he took it apart and left it on the kitchen table with a note that stated he couldn’t put it back together. This of course meant that the next guest would be assured of being locked out. When I asked why he removed it (NOT NECESSARY JUST TO RETRIVE THE KEY) I wasn’t given an answer. When I pointed out that the very last item on the list asked that the departing guest leave the key in the lockbox for the next guest, he said it wasn’t possible. (In my opinion this seemed like a deliberate sabotage of the rental unit). After all this occurred I did email the guest to ask why he didn’t call me, text me or email me if there was any sort of problem. His response was equally offensive and included added insults. I’m glad he is gone and for the record I returned his full deposit and hope that I never see him again.
