My wife and I stayed here for a week and really liked it. It was great to be able to come home and recharge after a long day and the neighborhood has many nice, interesting and inexpensive places to eat.
My husband and I stayed here in 2008. We both found it to be a relaxing oasis. We loved the Asian-inspired decor both inside and outside. The owners were very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again.
I spent two nights at the Retreat at m'illumino--a birthday present for myself--and really loved it. Aestheically, it's the perfect blend, for me, of very upscale but not so luxurious it feels obscene. It's totally green in use of materials--the woods are unusual and beautiful and the shower is a work of art-- and there is a sauna and steam room right in the cottage. Aaaaahhhh. I treated myself to a Feldenkrais session and a watsu session in the watsu tub behind the cottage. Both were outstanding. There are many classes to choose from at m'illumino, but I just read and walked around the neighborhood. Whole Foods is only a few blocks away. Highly recommend for personal R&R.
This property outshines most 4 star hotels in style and ambiance. My fiancee and I stayed at the rental for a "pre-honeymoon" weekend and had a wonderful time. The private steam and sauna rooms in the unit made it feel like we were in our own private spa! It is such a beautiful and romantic place. The area surrounding the property is ideal. There are great resturants nearby and wonderful Whole Foods just down the street for preparing food and dining in. The Woodlands Zoo is just a few miles away and should not be missed. We will definately return in the future. Hopefully sooner than later...
The retreat at M'Illumino was exactly as described, and was actually nicer than we'd hoped. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to prepare a last-minute family picnic. The decor was tasteful and relaxing. Green Lake was a short walk away, and there was a Whole Foods nearby for provisions. We were very delighted with our stay and hope to stay there again on our next trip to Seattle.
Thanks Bryony and Bridgette!
This place is a true retreat where you can unplug from whatever you need to unplug from. No phones, (turn off your cell) Internet is available but we prefered to really unplug. No TV. Music is available on the computer, but I listened to my own selections.
My wife and I stayed here for 1 week and it took us a couple nights to really get confortable with being unplugged, but by day 3 we were very confortable and happy. The owner is a lovely lady and made things very easy for us. The place is clean and has airy feel to it.
Biggest regret is not getting a WASU massage at the wellness center attached to the retreat. It looked like a very relaxing procedure.
There is a bus stop close by, which takes you right to the DT core if you like. A breakfast at Portage Bay Cafe is a must, great organic local food. For those not against starbucks, there is one just down by Greenlake park that serves the Clover coffee, a real nice cup of Joe.
There are a couple 24 hour super markets within 2 blocks where you can pick whatever you need.
About the place:
Bed - comfortable and warm - shove a pillow in the window above the bed for an extra long sleep
Kitchen - well equipped and a real delight to be able to go to the market and pick up fresh seafood and cook it yourself. As visitors to Seattle and the coast this is much better than always eating at restaurants.
Shower - So large and roomy and with the tile shower panels, there isn't a cold spot in the place!
Steam and Infrared Sauna - These were used at least 2 times a day and I felt completely cleansed by the end of the trip. My wife even enjoyed the steam room daily!
