Local Amenities: A small supermarket with bakery is ten minutes walk away, and the wonderful beach restaurants of Sao Rafael and Sardinha are just five minutes walk away. Within walking distance are many other restaurant options. Tennis courts are available to book nearby. Within a few minutes drive is Apolónia, one of the best supermarkets in the country. Algarve Shopping, a large mall, is a 15 min. drive away, open until late, with many shops, restaurants, bowling, and eight cinemas. The new Albufeira Marina is only a few minutes drive or 15 min walk, with many restaurants, shops, a gym, and offering boat trips, fishing and many other excursions.
Leisure Activities: Sao Rafael is a very well located central point on the coast of Algarve. From here it is easy to go to a wide variety of beaches and to visit many typical towns both to the East and West of this region. In Albufeira there are a wide choice of restaurants, coffee shops and bars, small cobblestone streets plenty of shops and street stalls. Many of the Algarve’s local attractions are within easy reach, including Zoomarine, Aqualand, Slide&Splash and other attractions for children and adults alike. The small town of Guia famous for its piri-piri chicken is close by, the medieval town of Silves, Monchique in the mountains, the Vilamoura Marina are less than half an hour away. Further East, Tavira, Faro, Olhão and its famous fish market, the Ria Formosa Natural Park, gateway to the beautiful beach islands are all less than an hour's drive away. Exploring further West with its more dramatic coastline is roughly an 1h30 drive away.
Weather: Although the winter months see some rain, there is sunshine all year round in Sao Rafael, with warm weather starting as early as March. Come Easter time there are people on the beach albeit with a colder sea. And from April the beach restaurants are fully operational every day and the summer warmth begins with the beach’s clear, tranquil, turquoise waters. Both May and June are gloriously peaceful months to enjoy Sao Rafael as they are calmer less busy months. July, August and September are lively, with summer in full swing. And in October the calm returns with often, still great weather.
