We had a great time at this property. The bedrooms are roomy and the little cupola area was a good hideaway for my nephew who is 10. The kids also enjoyed a chair-swing in the main living area, and a hammock in the nearby screened-in gazebo. The barn has a lot of atmosphere and the main area is quite pleasant for sitting around. The swimming pond is beautiful and can be seen from the deck. The water was pleasant and we spent a lot of time relaxing down in and around the pond. The only criticism I have of the property is that there is a bit of a burnt smell in the barn, which might bother you if you are sensitive to such things. But I imagined that this could be cleared out with a vigorous fan and wide open windows. Overall, this place has many wonderful features and we hope to come back.
Our family was looking for a nice place where we could get-away as a family. We were looking for a place that would accommodate 10 adults and a couple of grandchildren under one roof and provide a place where we could relax and visit easily. This rental fulfilled all of our expectations. The open 1st floor plan allowed us to visit over meals as well as during relaxing time. We also took advantage of the spacious grounds with a little family tournament of lawn games. The house had tons of light with easy access to the deck and yard. All the essentials were provided and we had a great time. We took a couple of excursions to the Mt. Greylock / Pittsfield / smaller New Lebanon. All were within easy travel distances.
Barn is well laid out with everything you could need for a weekend in the country. Pond is great for swimming and cupola is awesome hideaway. Wrap around deck is perfect for hanging out while grilling on the lawn. One caveat: bring all your food! Once you are ensconced it's jarring to go into town for anything.
We had a wonderful experience at the barn. The house was well-stocked--we were able to do everything from bake a pie to cook lobsters, without bringing anything extra to the kitchen-- extremely clean, and beautifully set up for families. We had multiple generations, including toddlers, and everyone was comfortable and happy. The three bathrooms made sharing the space that much easier. The house is bright and open, and there are multiple places to sit and relax.
The physical setting is lovely, and very quiet. We spent a lot of time on the porch, which had beautiful views of the mountains. We took walks on the road and were also able to drive to several nice hikes and lakes that weren't too far, as well as taking trips to Williamstown, Mass MOCA and Pittsfield. There were also excellent farm stands nearby.
The owners were incredibly helpful and responsive throughout the process of booking the house. They left thoughtful and detailed directions for everything from how to use the stereo to how to get to local supermarkets. When we had an issue with the television, they responded immediately.
We highly recommend this property and would certainly go back to it again.
Our family's three generations spent a rare six days together at the converted barn in Stephentown and it was the perfect place for us! With room for all and privacy as well, lawns inviting ball games, board games in the evening, and a lovely farm pond inviting young and old for a swim, we hardly needed to go anywhere else. Anyone who loves getting back to nature would love this place.
This is a stunning, idyllic rural experience. The home occupies a sunlit meadow with old apple trees, stone walls and a panoramic view of the Berkshire hills in which not a structure or a light is visible. The house has everything you would need-- while it is not a Sub Zero Kitchen/ Waterworks Bathroom place, we had no problem feasting on lobster risotto. It is a marvelous country escape. The home is architecturally delightful with both soaring spaces and intimate corners. We have rented the house four times in the last few years and can report that it functions wonderfully for large groups of friends --including being reasonably safe for toddlers (having just been there with four ranging from 1.5- 5 years) but is also, ummm, supremely romantic if you are there sans kids. From the high perch in the cupola to the the raised hearth fireplace, from the private sundrenched deck to the perfect little pond it just has that "pinch me" quality. The friends we brought last time are already scheming a seasons rental... Other reviewers cite convenience to Berkshire attractions which do indeed fall within 40 minutes. But then so does the Albany/Troy capital district district and within the hour lie both Hudson and Saratoga Springs-- wonderful day trip destinations. And while 'classic' attractions tend to make 'the list' its worth noting that some miles away in the center of town Stephentown plays host to a once a summer Grateful Dead style outdoor festival --and the The Stephentown Hotel which while not offering accommodation may just be the last of the road houses. The regional produce at the Berry Patch ten minutes away in Lebanon Springs is perfect and --no lie-- my mother in law has driven three hrs roundtrip from where she lives just to have another of their blueberry pies... the Barns owners provide a thorough house guide that both points you in the right direction for all your provisions and is refreshingly exact from ceiling fan to circuit. breakers. All in all you could never leave the house and still have a pitch-pefect escape in any season of the year.
