Our stay in Montresor was charming, and the town deserves the title of 'one of the loveliest' if France. The patisserie and restaurant are both amazing, as is the chateau and evening lights. We appreciated being in a small town, but being close to everything in the Loire valley we wanted to see. You have nice options to either simply relax or use as a home base.
The house itself is lovely, with plenty of space and the excitement of a cave bedroom. The host was very responsive before and during our visit. I would highly recommend.
Montresor is a lovely village and a great base for exploring the Chateaux region. Nice restaurants in town, it was too bad they were only open for dinner on week-ends when we were there. We stayed in the bedroom above the garage. It was spacious. We did have to go up and down the stairs to the bathroom. Our friends choose the bedroom on the second floor (called first in France). It was attractive and spacious with an adjoining bath. Sadly, they felt the sheets had not been changed and the toilet had not been cleaned. But, a quick clean up and change of sheets made everything better. The cave bedroom is unusual. It was too cool and damp for us to use during our visit. It might be nice in July or August when it is really warm. It has a beautiful large window, but it might need curtains to keep out the daylight. The kitchen was cozy and had a dishwasher. Here, too, we had a bit of clean up work - dirty pots, crumbs under coffee maker and all over counter. Sarah did say we should have called about the problems. They would have had someone come and take care of the problems. I am sure they would have, but it should not have been necessary. They were always quick to respond to questions about the radiator. We were never able to start the one on the fireplace wall. Not too much of a problem, the outside temps eventually warmed up. We enjoyed lunch at l'entrActe in Loches, Auberge du Cheval Rouge in Chissseaus on the way to Chenonceau, L'Essentiale in Feings, near Cheverny and dinner at Cafe de Ville in Montresor. The Tourism Office in Montresor is helpful and friendly. It is great for gifts and information.
This property has everything someone planning a vacation in the Loire valley could wish for: good location -a picturesque old french village; amazing 16th century house that was refurbished and maintained its rustic ambiance with good amenities; close to the main sites of the valley and enough off-the-bitten-track to allow a mix of touristic activities and leisure.
The owners were attentive and responsive through out our entire engagement. The only point of criticism to put forward is to prepare the property before people arrive especially checking that everything is functioning. It so happened that we came in one of the coldests weeks in April and it took the house around 24 hours to heat up. It would have been nice to be welcomed with a warmer house. As well the hot water system in one of the rooms didn't work. True that Jean-Michel attended to the situation immediately yet it took sometime to fix and it shouldn't have been the case if everything was checked in advance.
We recommend staying in this house for a family of several generations (as was our situation) or several couples. It has a familial air to it and it is very welcoming.
We loved our stay in this beautiful property which was set in the most picturesque village of Montresor. The house had everything and more that we could have asked for and needed - perfect! Sarah and Jean-Michel have thought of everything including the helpful guide book on what to see and do. We all loved the cave, boating in the river and daily our trips to the patisserie. We would highly recommend a stay here!
Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed our time at this beautiful home in Montresor! So much character and a great place from which to explore all the Loire Valley has to offer. Sarah and Jean Michel were amazing hosts and made our stay so enjoyable. Don't miss the Cafe de Ville in Montresor and market day in Loches!!!
Our experience mirrored the other fabulous reviews. The house is spacious and well equipped as well as having hundreds of years of history in every room. The house was beautifully clean and presented and a real balm after a day's drive. We enjoyed a paddle in the boat and the little gardens on the riverbank. The information at the house was really helpful too.
The village is superbly supported with its excellent boulangerie, well stocked supermarket and helpful pharmacie. We were there for the evening illuminations along the river which were a wonderful surprise we will always remember.
Sarah and Jean-Michel have been fantastic hosts - from the booking process, the lead up to the visit and even after - going out of their way to help us recover the charger we accidentally left behind.
We hope to return for a longer stay.
