Hemlock Grove is just like staying at home...if your home was nestled on 300 gorgeous acres with hiking trails, comfy beds, incredible views, and all the peace and quiet you can imagine. This was our second year staying at the cottage, and our experience was equally as dreamy as our first visit. The home is incredibly cozy, well-appointed, stocked with all the equipment you need to make some "down home" meals, and features an endless array of finishing touches - books (and a hammock to read them on), music (and a great stereo to handle the soundtrack of vacation), firewood and a back deck to enjoy it on, a hot tub out under the stars, and room to roam for any age (we had 6 kids with us). We've visited many, many places and Hemlock Grove will keep drawing us back - the quiet of the woods, the warmth of the hosts, and the memories in the air. It's all good. So, so good.
We were on motorcycles and it was better than the dragon!!! It was an adventure every day leaving and coming back. The house was a throw back to the good old days, the rotary phone, to golden color appliances was so neat. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals, and the deck was great to sit out and drink coffee in the morning. It was great to have the washer and dryer to do laundry, because we only had an extra outfit, so we did laundry every other day.
We did not use the bunkhouse, but if we would have had children, it would have been great! We walked the trail to Barewood Cabin one day to use the internet, but I did not miss the cell or internet service. We was going to use the hot tub, but was always to tired to get in it when we got back. Lee and Patrick had a snack basket waiting for us, and they were the nicest hostess we have every had!! If you are looking for peace and quiet, then Hemlock Grove is your place!!
There were 15 in our party and the accommodations with the bunkhouse were perfect with beds to spare. The location is beautiful! As it is off the beaten path, we hauled a trailer loaded with enough food for our stay. We had 9 children who loved being there even without wifi and cell service! 3 of them were teenagers! We spent most of our time hiking and exploring the mountains surrounding us. The kids waded in pretty streams and the creek behind the main house. It was a memory of a lifetime, being with family minus the "world". We did things we do not take time for due to work and life responsibilities. We played games with the kids, told stories around the fire and made smores. Each child ranging from 4 to 17 said it was the best vacation ever! They said everything we did was good but doing it as a family was best! We want to go back in the Spring or Summer we know it will be beautiful. I highly recommend Hemlock Grove as a way to pull family together and to spend time enjoying wooded beauty! I have never in my travels spoken with a nicer host to rent from. If we lived nearby I know we would be friends! :) Everything was very clean and comfortable. We loved it!
I was once where you are. You've found this listing that seems a little too good to be true - the location looks gorgeous, the house looks clean and inviting, the price is more than reasonable, and the owner seems too nice. Obviously there must be a catch, right? Here's the thing - you can take the next 30 minutes to read all of the reviews below this one looking for some hint of something...or I can summarize them for you. We spent a week here with an eclectic mix of family - from grandparents to newborns - and we are already working on booking our week for next year. The property is incredible - hiking trails and breathtaking vistas without the nuisance of technology (or noise!). The house is something out of a magazine - warm and inviting like old-fashioned Southern charm, yet spacious enough that everyone can spread out. The kitchen is well-equipped, as evidenced by the ridiculous amount of food we prepared (and consumed) during our stay. (And the fire pit and hot tub - as well as the incredible starry sky - make the perfect place to recover from the gluttony) Each day was spent exploring and playing, and each night was spent singing around the fire before crashing into comfortable beds...just to start again. And to top it all off, Lee goes out of his way to make every detail as accommodating as possible. So take the next 30 minutes to read about all of the other amazing stays that Hemlock Grove has produced. Or save yourself the time and get on the schedule. Just stay away from our week.
We had a great time at Hemlock Grove in Tennessee. Lee was a fabulous host! We were greeted with a lovely bouquet of wildflowers and a gift basket. The entire family had a wonderful time. The hiking trails were well marked, the property was well maintained, the house was clean and inviting and the beds were very comfortable, we all had such a wonderful time everybody has agreed it would be a great place to return.
We had 8 family members who meet each year for a week in June in a mountain area. The house was very nice, roomy & very clean. The kitchen was well equipped for us since we do a lot of cooking. We enjoyed the whip-poor-wills while sitting on porch in late evening. We enjoyed playing pool in bunk house & having extra space. We appreciated the welcome basket of goodies upon our arrival. The owner Lee came by to check on us & provided everything we needed for our stay.
