Andrea could not have been easier to work with. The house was very comfortable for 4 adults. The kitchen had everything needed to prepare dinner. Beds were very comfortable and dressed with good linens. The garden was beautiful and bursting with spring. The location and view...excellent. Located above the Front St. Boatyard makes for interesting viewing. Belfast is a lovely quiet town...at least in late May! Make sure you visit the Farmer's Market on Friday AM. Can't wait for our return visit in May 2016! A huge thank you to Andrea for sharing her lovely home with us. See you next year!
I wrote a review earlier mentioning "First" Street Shipyard. It is actually "Front" Street Shipyard. Editor, change if you can...otherwise, pls. add this. Thanks!
Not only is the cottage charming, well appointed and convenient to Rt. 3 & 1, you can walk to town in 5-10 minutes. The house overlooks the harbor and the First Street Shipyard. At first, we weren't sure how the latter might be but it turned out to be amazing to watch the workers set up and maneuver VERY large sailboats and power boats into dry dock and out again. It ended up adding to our stay at this cottage.
Andrea was wonderful to work with and spent many days working in the lovely gardens surrounding the house. There are fountains, pieces of art and a new fire pit to enjoy while overlooking the harbor, as well.
All in all, we could not have been happier or enjoyed a spot more. Great if you want a cozy, comfortable, clean, fully stocked place to call home for a week or two.
The owner left lights in and outside the house on knowing we would be arriving late our first day. The ambiance of the house embraced us immediately ..... decorated nicely, very comfortable furniture, beds & pillows, little extras in drawers & cabinets that we didn't have to go out to purchase, plenty of lamps for reading, two television sets, washer & dryer, fully loaded kitchen. The view from both upstairs and down was absolutely stunning. The description at HomeAway could not do justice to the actual cottage. It was very clean and inside and out were all very well-maintained. We met the owner when she was in town one day and she is very friendly and nice.
We loved Belfast, especially Weaver's Bakery for breakfast or lunch, and the Co-op is a fun place to pick up food items. The shops in town are varied and the shop owners were very friendly and hospitable.
One of our favorite trips was to Bucksport to Fort Knox and to go up to the top of the observatory tower at the suspension bridge. We also recommend the pizza place at the far end of town from the bridge. The place doesn't look like much, but the pizza was delicious. Chez Michael in Lincolnville was wonderful as was Dip Net at Port Clyde.
Bar Harbor and Freeport were much too touristy for us, but we regret not having gone on to the other side of Acadia National Park which we understand is less crowded and very picturesque.
This was a vacation that we will talk about for years to come. We picked the perfect time of the year to be there: fall foliage was spectacular, cool, sunny days and a week to kick around the area. We highly recommend this cottage to anyone who would prefer something other than a motel room or even a B&B. You will not regret it for a minute.
My husband and I stayed at the cottage for a week at the end of June. We were surprised that the photographs did not do the property justice - especially the view from the deck. The view of the river and the ocean, with the array of boats changing daily, proved to be one of the most serene places we had ever stayed. We ate a number of meals out on the deck, spent afternoons reading there, and managed a cocktail hour there most early evenings.
The cottage was immaculate and has so many touches that others don't (soft coverlets on every chair, 4 rocking chairs spread throughout the house, a washer and dryer in the interesting basement, and every imaginable cooking or eating tool that you might want should you tire of trying all the reasonable delicious seafood to be had). The few times we ventured away from the cottage, we walked around town and did a little shopping. Don't miss the food co-op. It had a plethora of interesting items around which we built a marvelous italian dinner (do try their homemade tuscan sausage at the butcher shop inside). Their homemade muffins are scrumptious too.The steamed bucket of clams and the lightly deep fried native shrimp at the Weathervane were spectacular. We also drove over to Searsport and had, according to the locals, a yummy double lobster dinner at a place called Anglers. Well worth the short trip there. Further down the road is a restaurant called Helens that had the best lobster stew ever. What treats from the sea. Because the cottage was such a delight, we did not take as many day trips as we thought we might. Walking about Belfast (there is a walking map that explains all the sites and a helpful chamber of commerce booth in town) was such a wonderful experience that we will need to return there so that we can explore more of the breathtaking scenery. In addition, Andrea is there when you need her and is most helpful if you have any questions, Within minutes of arriving she pointed out a lovely jam-packed grocery store close by.Next time we would probably like to bring our canoe.; the water was calm as could be while we were there. All in all, it is a perfect getaway if you are interested in a serene, lovely spot. We do hope to return!
