The house was very clean, with lots of extras if you forget something. This is a totally different experience than staying in a condo. You have to make your own fun, which was great. There is river rafting, horseback riding and great biking within an hours drive. We biked the Hiawatha trail for the 2nd time, an incredible experience. Hint: Take some air out of your tires first-easier ride on the gravel trail. Gloves would also be handy for the cold tunnels. We rafted with Montanariverguides outside Superior. It took about 1 1/2 hours to drive there and were very happy with them. We have rafted with others in the area and find this company to be the best. The biking trial that runs through Wallace is alot of fun and very easy. The area surrounding the house is a little run down, but the people are very friendly. Be prepared for all the cleaning at the end. All the bedding needs to be washed and beds remade, floors vacuumed and mopped. It makes it impossible to leave first thing in the morning, unless you sleep on the floor. I would still stay there again, but maybe ask to pay more for the cleaning deposit. That would give us more flexibility and keep the vacation fun to the very end. The owners are very easy to deal with and gave us contact numbers in case of any problems. The town is full of antique shops, which are fun to browse. We drove through Kellogg, which wasn't nearly as historic. We are so glad that we stayed in Wallace. Kellogg isn't nearly as quaint and has alot more commercial activity. The stairs are rather steep that lead to the bedroom and basement. They do have hand rails and new carpeting, but people with leg problems may find them difficult. Parking is on the street, so everything must be carried up the stairs. It worked out okay for us, as we are all in pretty good shape. It was my husband and I with our 13 and 15 year old girls. We all had a great time!
The owner Steve was very responsive. The listing description regarding the house and the location was accurate. The house was extremely clean and having Ray who looks after the place living next door was an added bonus. Ray has lived in the Wallace area his entire life and is more than willing to make recommendations regarding good places to eat and fun things to do in the area. It was great to be able to walk into town and not have to drive everywhere. The only complaint is the lack of comfort with the twin beds. My husband and I slept in the queen bed which was comfortable however our teenage son was extremely uncomfortable in the twin bed just outside of the main bedroom. After trying out all 4 of the twin mattresses by sitting/laying on them I would have to agree that none of them felt particularly comfortable.
Stayed here for three nights for skiing and Lookout Pass. House was very comfortable, clean and well appointed. Caretaker Ray next door was friendly and helpful, all in all a great place to stay.
Futons for beds, internet router located next door resulting in poor connectivity and the property manager was unaware of my arrival. In short, there are better choices to be made in this area for housing.
Perfect house for a ski weekend in the Silver Valley. Midway between Silver Mountain and Lookout Pass ski areas. Downtown and all it has to offer with restaurants, a brewery, wine bar, museums, and cool shops is just a block away. Comfortably slept the five us us and even enough room for more. Great kitchen for cooking and living room for putting your feet up. The covered porch would be great in summer. The two bedrooms and open loft with single beds are all upstairs, so if you have snorers bring earplugs. Beds and linens were clean and comfy. The unfinished basement has a washer and drier and an extra toilet and shower for those who like privacy in the privy. Parking was a bit limited, but the neighbors are very accomodating. We'll definitely be back for future ski trips and bike rides on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes and Hiawatha Trail.
We couldn't have had a better time staying at this home in Wallace. It is a very comfortable and clean home. It was very nice to have a washer and dryer since we were there 10 days. The care taker Ray is about the greatest guy ever and will tell you anything you want to know about the area and what there is to do! Parking is limited but everyone around makes every effort to fit you in. Example: We fit two trucks which both were pulling a trailer. The town is amazingly interesting - some of our favorites were The Mining Tour, The Bordello Museum, The Wallace Brewery (so nice and fantastic beer), The Fainting Goat (fun atmosphere, great service), Route of the Hiawatha, The Pulaski Tunnel Trail, too many to count hikes and ATV trails and our neighbor Ray! Thanks Wallace for a great trip, we miss you already!
