We are going to return to New Moon for the third time this winter. It is an ideal location on the quiet side of the island. The cottage is accurately depicted in the photos- charming and well maintained. Catherine is very accommodating. There are lots of stairs, so if you have trouble with stairs you should probably think twice.
The deck is lovely. The kitchen is well equipped. We can sometimes hear distant sounds from nearby cottages, but it has never been a problem or intruded on our experience. We have always felt quite private.
Catherine was fabulous! Met us at the dock and took us to the grocery store on the way to the house. Loved the location! Easy access to everything on Coral Bay. The home is just as the pictures show. Maybe even better! Clean. Cute. Perfect for us. Has all the amenities. We didn't mind not having AC. Great breezes blow thru the bedroom every night.
Lots of stairs. This is not a place for those with difficultly walking up and down stairs.
This was our second trip to St John and our first at New Moon. We will definitely rent it again every trip. We will be back next spring!
We absolutely loved our stay at New Moon over the holidays this December! My husband and I chose the cottage for our delayed honeymoon, and it could not be a more perfect spot for a couple looking to escape for a little bit.
The cottage itself is beautiful, unique, and extremely clean. You can tell that Cathy and the owners really care for the property, it looks brand new! We especially loved the clever design of the top floor, with the beautiful large basin shower. The home let in cool breezes through the screen windows, and none of the rain from the occasional showers.
Cathy was beyond helpful - she picked us up from the ferry, showed us the house upon arrival, and was available the whole week for questions, despite the holiday timing. She is such a kinda, wonderful person, and made us feel right at home.
As far as things to do, there really were too many delicious restaurants on our side of the island to choose from. Skinny Legs was a great stop for the first night. We also recommend Hidden Reef Eco tours for kyaking and snorkeling - we ended up with a private tour! The other side of the island is also very accessible, so we were able to explore both Coral and Cruz Bays. If you like hiking, we recommend Ram's Head trail - it has a beautiful 360 degree view of St. John, the BVI, and ocean.
We hope to return to New Moon as soon as we can, and will maybe bring some friends to stay in Just Enough just down the path if we can!
My fiancée and I stayed at new moon for a week after Christmas and it was perfect. The cottage is great for a couple, small but with a well-equipped kitchen, nice deck, and great views. It is a short drive to all the bars and restaurants in coral bay and we loved getting to know the area. It is a bit of a drive from Cruz bay but well worth it for us to be so close to amazing hikes, the east end, and salt pond bay.
Perfect cottage for a getaway! Location is perfect -- you feel far away but you are really just minutes from the stores and restaurants of laid back Coral Bay. Cruz Bay is just over the island which the locals think is SO FAR but compared to my daily commute it's nothing :)
Coffee with the iguanas in the trees off the deck each morning was a treat!
It's a very open floor plan which is great for air flow, but just be aware that bathroom/bedroom are connected if you are someone who wants a lot of privacy :)
We stayed at New Moon for one week in June. (our first trip without the kids in a while) The cottage was everything we wanted for a getaway. It was fully stocked with everything we needed. I mean, c'mon, they even had a french press for coffee snobs like me. While it isn't really secluded, the vegetation and landscape make it feel like it is. On our arrival, the place was spotless.
We rented one of the Jeeps that they had, and Catherine made sure someone was there to pick us up at the ferry dock. He took us to the grocery store in Cruz Bay and then on to the cottage. Catherine was always available to answer any questions we had and to make sure that we got back to the ferry on time on our departure day. We really appreciated how she made us feel at home.
I'm an island guy. In fact, someday soon I hope to be one of the locals that you meet in Skinny Legs. When we do meet, feel free to ask me for recommendations on things to do and places to eat. I'll talk your ear off. St John is one of my favorite places. While we were there my wife spent every day in the water with me, despite Jaws having scarred her for life where the ocean is concerned. We saw something new below the surface every day. I love the pace and natural beauty of the island. It was great to come back to the cottage at the end of the day and watch the twilight descend on the valley and the bay. You just can't beat falling asleep with the sea breezes rustling the curtains.
Coral Bay is on the quiet side of a quiet island. Nothing is really all that far away from you though. The beaches on the east end and southern side are really close and on some days you'll have them virtually all to yourself. As far as food goes, Miss Lucy's, Oasis, and Skinny Legs all offer good food at reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. Pickles Deli has a good breakfast. Overall, it's great place to make your own adventure.
