what a luck that we decided for this flat (or better: little house) in cockermouth for our trip to the lakes!
cockermouth is good connected with public transport to keswick and the hotspots in the northern lake district but also to the coastline. therefor you are a bit 'offroad' from the very touristic places and have a relaxed pretty town with all shops and restaurants you need for a perfect holiday.
the la'al cottage is a smart mini-house, fully and tasty equipped wirth a absolutely calm and beautiful view to the all-saints-churchyard.
all the organisational things about the accommodation with jan have been without any difficulties and made the stay perfect in every sense!
Thoughtful gift of bottle of Cava left for us, as we were on honeymoon.
Cottage is bright and airy and very clean.
Great central location close to all amenities.
Cockermouth is a nice historic market town well worth a visit.
We spent 5 nights at this lovely cottage, it really felt like home. Being used to self catering holidays we pretty much packed everything (including the kitchen sink). However, we needn't have bothered as the owners have thought of absolutely everything! Very impressive.
The cottage is close to everything you could possibly need as well; Sainsbury's a 5 min walk, restaurants and lots of pubs within easy walking distance. Perfect.
We had a lovely meal at the Bitter End Pub. Certainly worth a visit as everyone else has mentioned, the food is very good. Nice ales too!
We spent most of our time in Keswick which wasn't too far to drive to. Derwentwater is really lovely, well worth a visit. The walk round it is 10 miles with a couple of eating places on the way round. We also went up Cat Bells and took in the beautiful view of Derwentwater from up there. Pretty breath-taking.
We attempted to do the Keswick to Threlkeld cycle path, but only got about a mile in as there was flood damage so you couldn't go any further which was a real shame as it's a lovely cycle ride. Maybe next time.
We did have a few issues with parking as we returned about 5:30 each day so possibly prime parking time, but only once did we have to park further away than planned, as no one else really mentioned that, I'm guessing we were just a bit unlucky.
The cottage was perfect in every way, very clean, tidy and an ideal break from home. We'd definitely visit again.
Woning was in nette staat, smaakvol ingericht, schoon en compleet.
Helaas was hij niet voorzien van de mogelijkheid om buiten te zitten.
La'al cottage, Kirgate, Cockermouth, located adjacent to All Saints Church and close to the town centre is very peaceful and a delight to return to each day after exploring The Lakes. The cottage is well designed, with a very comfortable lounge / diner and well equipped kitchen downstairs, with a shower room and bedroom with its huge solid oak bed upstairs. The bed has gorgeous white bedding, duvet and extra pillows making it mega comfortable and likewise the bathroom has fluffy white towels. Despite staying in July, the heating was also very welcome. The whole cottage is freshly decorated in neutral colours and spotlessly clean. Unlimited WiFi is most useful and a must have when travelling these days. There's even unrestricted parking on cobbles adjacent to the cottage. The owners have made a great effort to make this a home from home place to stay with lots of nice additions for example wall pictures, mood lighting, TV and digital radio in the lounge, a good sized dining table and chairs, ample clothes storage space, ironing board and iron, aired and hair drier. There are also a myriad of little things that make your stay even better like wine stoppers - even for that bottles of sparkling wine - extension cables, hand wash and toiletries to name a few. From Cockermouth the beautiful Buttermere Valley is just a short drive away, and Bassenthwaite with its stunning Osprey viewing even closer. In and around Cockermouth offers a wealth of places to visit, fantastic scenery and good places to eat. That said, with such a lovely cottage to spend the evenings, we chose to eat in, buying food and wine from the local shops, many of which are independent traders selling local produce. A little gem set in one of the planet's most beautiful regions.
My wife and I recently stayed in this lovely cottage, just steps away from the centre of the town. It is beautifully decorated and very well equipped with all that you would expect in a modern home. The size is just right for a couple although I imagine it would work just as well for a couple with infant.
The owner provided clear, useful and concise info regarding getting to the property and accessing it. There is plenty of info in the guest information folder too for whatever you may need to know for within the property and around town.
We decided on this property as it was based in a nice town which we had briefly visited before and is well based for visiting many of the Lakes and is less touristy than staying near Windermere. The price was an absolute bargain considering the quality of the property and location.
There are several pubs and restaurants around town that are worth visiting. The closest pub, The Bitter End, not twenty seconds away (although you can't hear it) serves a good selection of drinks and does good quality pub grub. Booking ahead for dinner is worthwhile as most places are busy and we did see some people turn up without a booking who couldn't be accomodated.
I hope this place is available when we next return as it is perfect and we have not got close to exhausting the potential around Cockermouth.
