Serene Property

Being able to stay in a private home for our 3 day anniversary trip was a blessing. But to also have a gorgeous view & such a peaceful environment made our stay perfect and memorable. Each night we sat on the back deck I was amazed at how quiet and peaceful it was, with nothing but the rolling surf and chirping birds to hear. I even heard seals barking one night. The lovely part of this home is that just because it got dark and you had to leave the beach, you don't feel cut off from the beautiful nature in this area. Being in the house was just an extension of enjoying the water and the forest.

There are plenty of other homes around, but you can't tell while inside and on the decks. There are no neighbors on one side and on the other side there are so many trees between the houses you can't see the neighbors house at all...whether upstairs or downstairs. The seclusion & privacy was romantic and special. And to have the beautiful view not only when in the kitchen and dining area, but upstairs in the master bedroom as well made the entire house a joy. This property is a great value as a rental. I had checked into some of the local hotels and we could have paid more for far less.

Mr. Kelty was very accommodating when I contacted him about a last minute trip. We booked just 3 days or so before our arrival & I appreciated him booking us on such short notice.

We had no problem getting there using the directions provided, nor with checking in and getting settled. It was all a breeze.

The kitchen is pretty well stocked. Even though everything wasn't there, I was able to make due just fine with what was there. (a pair of tongs & maybe a few mixing bowls would be a good addition for the kitchen!) As far as pantry staples, it's a bit of a guess. There were a few things that were helpful....olive oil & salt, but no pepper & a bit of old basil was the only seasoning. I would just suggest bringing what you want to cook with. I don't think that's really part of the deal.....if it's there than it's there, but if not...oh well!

The bed was pretty comfortable. Each person has a different preference, but for me a nice feather bed topper would have made this bed perfect, but it was fine as is.

Cambria has water issues. I'm from CA so I'm used to it, but I think it's worse in this area. So be ready anywhere you stay here to be asked to sacrifice a bit on towels & such.

Seaview on Burton

It was our first stay at this lovely place and we hoped not the last one.

It was actually our first stay at a private residence and we especially appreciate the attention to detail by owner-managers like Seaview's as opposed to the agency type home rentals or hotel stay.

Cool House

We enjoyed a somewhat wet but nevertheless cheerful weekend at this well-designed house overlooking a large - and right now very green - pine forest, which stretches all the way to the ocean. The home is nestled in a grove of my favorite trees, coastal redwoods. There are wood floors throughout. The owner greeted us on arrival and explained when we asked that they're made of the very trees cleared to build the house. They give the place a warm, country elegance. We plan to come back in the dry season and enjoy the hiking trails, most of which were a little too soggy to navigate this trip. Overall a very cozy stay and we highly recommend it..

Beautiful home but no TV in living room

The view from the backyard is all forest with the a Small view of the ocean, beautiful. This house is too far away from the beach to walk to leisurely. Plenty of room inside but the living room has no TV which was a major dissapointment and forced us to all hang out in the master bedroom in order to watch tv together at night. Our kid watchs tv before bedtime. Also, there is a 2nd unit below the house that takes away from your privacy, we felt like we had to watch how loud we were when we noticed somebody arrived. I think our internet was lost once when somebody went into the 2nd unit also which ruined our streaming movie we were watching. we enjoyed our stay but probably will try to get something closer to the beach next time and pay closer attention to small details about the next house.

Resposta do proprietário: Seaview is managed and operated the same way it has been for 12 years, with a 4.8/5 average review score. Specifically: "The house is too far away from the ocean to walk to leisurely." It's 1.2 miles to the ocean all downhill. The online map shows exactly where the house is located. "Our kid watches TV before going to bed. . ." The stated policy is no children, specifically because the serenity of the setting is not geared to active children needing electronic distractions. The guest violated the no child policy, then left a trash can full of soiled, un-enclosed nappies when they left. "There is a 2nd unit below the house." No. There is an office below, specifically stated in the lease agreement. It is visited to file paperwork after we check guests in, and there is no invasion of privacy.

Renter beware. Read our story first

Due to an experience that can only be described as traumatizing, we left this property the first night and drove 3.5 hours back home. We’d like others to be aware of items not mentioned on the website. Our hope is that no one has to go through what we did.

• There is another level to this property. The owner calls the under level. Photos are not displayed on the website nor is it described.

• There is a passageway beneath the stairs inside the house that provides access from under level of house to rental space. It is not labeled. We would have NEVER rented this place if we were made aware there was a secret passageway beneath the stairs that gives access to a lower level of the house where the owner might be.

• This passageway is NOT and can NOT be secured from inside the house where we were. Whoever is below can access the rental space through this passageway.

• We were unaware of this other level of the house and heard noises coming from below where we were staying.

• We both heard what sounded like someone trying to come through the passageway door beneath the stairs into the house. This person did NOT announce themselves at any time. Only when I yelled multiple times did they stop trying to access the house. FRIGHTENING!!!

• We were absolutely scared for our safety, grabbed our belongings and drove 3.5 hours back home.

• The rental agreement provided when you arrive states only the owner can come and go to the third level at any time. BUT the owner stated the person we heard was women who does his office work. So he confirmed we heard someone. Why then did she have access? How was she able to maneuver outside during a pitch black night? Where was her car? Why didn’t she announce herself? Why was she trying to access the rental space from the passageway?

• A call was made to the owner within 10 minutes. He returned our call the next morning.

• There is a video camera in the garage and one on the outside of the house. We weren’t there long enough to note if there were others.

The owner did offer apologies and provided a refund. Neither of which can make up for what ends up being a ruined trip and both of us being gun shy about renting again. We are hopeful that this under level of the house and passageway are clearly explained for future renters so that they don’t have to go through what we did. READ the agreement very carefully. We’ve never read anything quite like it in all of our rental experiences.

Resposta do proprietário: Oh, please. Is this a review or an entry in the "dark and stormy night" novel contest? We have no secret passages nor 'things that go bump in the night.' A regrettable but honest mistake by our office manager, who failed to secure the heavy lock separating our basement floor business office before arrival of these tenants,has been hugely blown out of proportion. Nevertheless, an immediate apology and refund in full were issued, giving this party ample opportunity to book any of the numerous local inns of our destination seacoast town... versus an hysterical multi-hour drive home. As for the concern about access, all access to guest quarters is secured by locks, including a deadbolt on the guest side of the security door separating the house from the office. We maintain an onsite office for flood/fire-watch purposes since the house sits on a forested preserve; other reviews, mentioning the highly appreciated woods-ocean view, will bear this out. We also have 2 exterior-only video cameras in plain view to comply with local ordinances limiting the number of parked cars per residence; this monitoring has also been necessary on occasion to check if the amount of people booked in has been accurately reported. We take pride in doing business with honesty and integrity, and take great pleasure in the positive response of the overwhelming majority of our guests.

Great place for solitude, very cool house! This ties for 1st place with other properties we have rented. Awesome for a more intimate get away, the view is better than the pictures portray. Very private and quiet setting.
