We really enjoyed our short stay in a vintage caravan. It had everything we needed.
So glad you enjoyed your stay with us here at the Buzzards Roost.
Beyond My Expectations
This was my second visit to The Buzzards Roost, an eco-friendly vintage-RV compound in Joshua Tree owned by Julia and "Buck." During my first weekend visit, I stayed in the "Zeppelin," a cool gated RV featuring a "sink-into-me" bed, office that dares you not to write, and antiques, including a photo of an unidentified bombshell model wearing a red bikini, pumps, and a space helmet (…okay!). I’d see her again, this time magnified by a local artist on “The Star,” another vintage trailer wherein headshots of iconic American celebrities meet astronomical aesthetics and starry-night surrounds. The RV also packs considerable charm with original curved wood “whale head” walls, antique hardware, private front and back decks, and a bathroom with a toilet and a HOT shower all sourced by Mother Nature. It also includes a full kitchen with antique and modern appliances and just about everything you need to stay, as I did, quietly for six days. On my first night, I received a gracious check-in call from owners Julia and Buck, and then spent the rest of my time in pajamas-meet daywear reading, writing, and resting.
Then this happened: I decided to leave a day early because of car trouble I faced en route; I didn’t want to get stuck on the road with insufficient time to get home before the workweek began. I texted Buck to let him know about my early departure, adding that I expected no refund at all for this decision. In no less than 30 minutes, Buck pulled behind my idling car, popped my hood, and disassembled and reassembled parts of my engine until the “check engine” light disappeared. I don’t know about you, but this kind of generosity feels a bit magical – miraculous even! Then, at my request, he let me tour another vintage RV awaiting careful restoration; it had own gate and small side and backyard to accommodate pets and families.
Suffice it to say: I’m a happy camper who got more than what I paid for, bargained for, and way more than what I expected. My advice to potential visitors: go with an open mind, reasonable expectations, and an optional mobile hotspot (to work alongside the free internet provided and Mercury Retrograde): you’ll be richly blessed. I know was.
P.S. I still opted to leave a day early and noticed my car’s “check engine” light reappear. But So What! (I’d learned from Buck that I could buy a “Diagnostic Scanner” to troubleshoot my engine, and did just that in Joshua Tree before hitting the freeway.)
It was great having Lanita back here again at the Roost. Any host should feel lucky to have such a great guest. Quiet and respectful , I enjoy speaking with her, and she is always welcome here.
If you like vintage things? This is a premium vintage trailer from original appliances to beautiful wood interior. Brings back memories of yesteryear if you are that old. funky grounds and other vintage trailers, I would recommend! Nice and quiet. Buck the owner, is happy to talk about permaculture or just leave you alone. I'll go back.
We will see you next time, thank you.
Very nice folks
I am definitely considering returning after a nice cozy stay with my two girl friends. This was the first place I have ever booked by myself so it was nice that Buck and Julia were very caring and helpful when we couldn't figure out the heater. The back porch has a really nice view, I was sitting out there in 30 degree weather, marveling at the beautiful night sky! My friends and I went on plenty of day walks around neighboring streets. Be aware that some neighbors don't fence their dogs and the dogs were very defensive from our presence. The permaculture setting gives this place a lot of character and a lot of thought towards environmental sustainability. Loved it!
Happy you had a great stay, sorry about the dogs we talked with our neighbor and he is going to do a better job of keeping them in.
