Oceanfront cottage situated just 60 feet from the rocky shoreline of Dyer Bay. Nestled among spruce and fir trees with water on two sides and over 185 ft. of frontage, this home provides access to all the best that DownEast Maine has to offer. Whether you are kayaking on the bay, bicycling on any number of local bike paths or hiking one of the spectacular ocean trails, this is a perfect place where you can relax and unwind.
Appropriately named "Sunset Point", this cottage is located on a private drive on Goods Point in Steuben. It was completely rebuilt in 2016 so everything is new! Relax and enjoy the wonderful views on the wraparound deck or down on the rocks by the water's edge. You can watch the lobster boats work their traps in the bay, and then anchor them for the night in front of the cottage. In the fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances you can steam your own lobster in our pot, or grill steaks on the gas grill on the deck. The living area and dining room are open with a cathedral ceiling with wall to wall picture windows which flows into the kitchen. Two doors lead you onto the deck which has a full complement of deck furniture including (2) bar height tables. Every room has a ceiling fan (including all three bedrooms), which will keep you cool while watching the 42" HDTV with blu ray DVD and satellite service. Plus the cottage has WIFI. Three bedrooms (two queen and one with twin beds), 2 bathrooms, one with tub/shower, stackable washer and dryer and all the amenities you would expect for a perfect vacation getaway.
Bring your kayaks and launch them from a private cove next to the cottage. Then paddle out to explore Dyer Bay and Fish Island. Go around the bend to see if bald eagles are perched in their nest. Sunset Point Cottage is an ideal spot to venture off and visit any number of amazing places. Explore beautiful McClellan Park in the neighboring town of Milbridge or hike the trails on Pigeon Hill or in the Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge. Just 30 minutes away is the absolute "must see' of Acadia National Park's Schoodic Point with it's spectacular granite cliffs and crashing surf. This park has walking and bike trails and is much less crowded than the larger and more well know park to the south. 1 hour south is Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island and the wonders of Acadia National Park, which includes Cadillac Mt., Thunder Hole, Ocean Drive, the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, Jordan Pond countless hiking trails and the wondrous 40 miles of Carriage Roads (available only to foot traffic, bikers and horseback!) To the north you can drive 1 1/4 hours to hike the Bold Coast Trails at Cutler and then visit the West Quoddy Head lighthouse at Quoddy Head State Park. Don't forget to bring your passport to cross into Canada to visit the summer home of President Franklin D. Roosevelt on Campobello Island.
With the cottage's central location on the DownEast coast you have many options to choose from when planning the day's events. You may just prefer to put your feet up and read a book on the deck. Maybe spend the day painting or let the camera lens capture the beauty. Whichever you choose, this is a perfect place to disconnect whether you are here for a peaceful retreat or a family adventure.
