A group of 7 of us arrived with BikeMaine in Eastport and realized we had no way to get our luggage to this house, which is about 1/2 mile from the city center. Steve (the owner) very graciously agreed to serve as our sherpa! And then helped us orient ourselves to Eastport, with good hints for biking, and checked in with us regularly to make sure all was well. Really wonderful host, I can't say enough good things. The house was very clean, the beds great, the shower worked very well, and we used the washer and dryer, which were an extra bonus. The house is lovely, and Eastport is a very fun place to visit. We didn't cook anything, but the kitchen appeared to be well appointed for a full week visit. We walked back and forth to town for events, and it was easy and pretty to walk along the path he showed us. A great adventure and rest stop for us!
This is a very comfortable home and only a few minutes walk to downtown. Our host went out of his way providing us information on activities and places to see in the area. The people were friendly and made us feel very welcomed. We arrived during the Pirate Festival and had a fantastic time. Don't miss the Roosevelt Cottage and Campobello. We will be returning to the Delesdernier House.
We rented the Delesdernier House and adjoining Sea Glass Apartment for a family wedding. The house is beautifully situated on a large, grassy lot dotted with shady trees and sits on a quiet street. We enjoyed bay views from the well-placed Adirondack chairs and kitchen deck. We took daily walks to the rocky beach a short block away to hunt for cool rocks with the grandkids. A small parking lot provides off-street parking for 4 cars with additional street parking in front of the house.
We choose the Delesdernier House over other options for the superior space it provided for large family gatherings. The multi-couch living room and large dining room table with lots of chairs offered plenty of seating for family meals and large get-togethers. The bedrooms were large and comfortable, providing private space for our four families. The spacious upstairs bath and laundry room (a godsend with 2 babies) is cleverly arranged with the tub/shower located in a separate area behind the toilet/sink area, allowing multi-use privacy. We also appreciated the convenience of the first floor half bath.
We rented the Sea Glass apartment with the house and I would recommend this to multiple families vacationing together or families vacationing with grandparents or teens. The apartment is separated from the house by a connecting hallway and short stairs, providing privacy and a place to escape the noise and bustle of young children. It also gave us another bath/shower and kitchen to use in food storage and meal prep for family events. When both the bride and groom's families got together for a BBQ, the apartment gave our tweens a convenient place to hang out, play games, dance and watch movies.
The kitchen was a delight to work in. It is spacious with plenty of counter and storage space, a full-size fridge, stove/range, microwave and portable dishwasher that hooks up to the sink. We also enjoyed the gas grill on the wood deck located right off the kitchen.
The house and apartment are well maintained, very comfortable and nicely decorated. Extra sheets, pillows and blankets for the comfortable beds are located in every bedroom. The bathrooms are well-stocked with towels and washcloths and even soap, shampoo and conditioner. In fact, everything we needed was provided from extra toilet paper and trash bags to laundry and dish soap to plastic wrap and foil to games and movies! It was like staying in a hotel villa! It is the perfect place for a Downeast Maine vacation.
My wife and I were coming to Eastport to look at a home for sale. Though the rental was listed from Saturday to Saturday the owner was able to accomadate our Thursday arrival and the next Sunday departure. Since it was just two of us, we stayed in the Sea Glass Studio. With its separate entrance, it was just what we needed. The queen size bed was comfortable and the kitchen allowed us to have breakfast and some lunches there. The bathroom was adequate. It had only a stall shower, but that was fine with us. The apartment was very roomy and clean and there was a nice yard with water views. As we were there when Sandy passed through, we didn't make much use of that! Also, we were able to use the land line phone in the apartment for local and long distance calls. This is important in Eastport, because most of the time your cell phone will roam to a Canadian tower. Our only negative was the cable tv did not work. This was really only a problem because of the approaching storm. As an added bonus, on two different occasions we had deer in the yard that were fun to watch. I would recommend Sea Glass for a single person or a couple. The owner was very accomodating and where else do you get a bottle of "Sea Glass" wine with your stay?
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home was large enough to accommodate numerous teenagers as well as two adults and a 7 year old comfortably. It was clean, comfortable and well maintained. The home had Wi-Fi and an impressive Satellite or Cable TV system *(not sure which) with numerous movie channels. The system also had a VCR and DVD player with a multitude of movies. This kept the teens busy when they would need a break.
The home is located close enough to downtown for an excellent stroll. The yard was large, and came with a basket of lawn toys, which went over well with all the kids. A very slight stroll down to the end of the street connects you with the ocean side and a multitude of sea-side treasures. Our host was extremely gracious and helpful. The dining room of the house was large enough to accommodate our whole crew each night for a family dinner.
We met some amazing people during our stay in Eastport, many owning businesses on Water Street. I would recommend the Pet Store to all pet owners, great people there, and Dastardly Dicks Coffee Shop definitely hit the spot every morning! The bakery had some amazing treats and Jim Levondosky's Art Studio is full of amazing pieces. A local named Russ on Washington Street builds and sells some incredible patio/urban garden boxes that are perfect for gardeners who do not choose (or can't) bend down to the ground for gardening. He even provides a watering system within the boxes complete with piping. They are excellent quality and come in an array of sizes. You can see them for sale in his yard. We stopped in and were greeted very well and learned so much from Russ.
We enjoyed hanging out at the dock and catching mackerel galore (and eating at the food shack on the dock was a must!!!) as well as doing a fair share of clamming. We took a sail boat whale watching tour from Captain Harris and was amazed at the multitude of whales, seals and birds that we witnessed. The lady running the tour was extremely passionate and informative during the tour. Her assistants and the captain were amazing, kind and knowledgeable people also. I would recommend both the Delesdernier House and Eastport to anyone looking for that special place they will dream of returning to the minute they leave! Thank you for our amazing week!
We spent two weeks celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary in my husbands ancestors house! The house is big, clean and fully stocked. The owners are caring, friendly people and listen to suggestions. We did miss no TV reception but upon our suggestion cable is now being installed. Internet can be found at many of the Eastport shops or at the local library.
If we weren't 2000 miles away we would go back every year. Loved the town and it's friendly people.
