One of my favorite places to stay in all the US. Stayed here for my 50th birthday with other girlfriends. I can't say enough about the beauty, the scenery and the ease of booking the accomodations and the extras that the owners did before and during our stay ( chocolates and wine upon our arrival). I want to go back again and again. I stayed September 2010 but for some reason I could not set the dates correct for this review.
Simply amazing. Quaint, classic style with modern comforts, spectacular views from property and nearby state park/lighthouse. Kate was professional, courteous and friendly; can't beat that. Wish we stayed longer. Well-maintained, clean, neat rooms(there is plenty of room, could possibly accomodate 10 adults or any combination thereof). Pleasantly surprised with what we got for what we paid.
My husband, daughter and I had a wonderful stay at Quoddy House. The 183 year old home was clean, comfortable and cozy. The twelve acre property with its wildflower meadow and rocky shore was alive with warblers, ruffed grouse and deer. We even spotted an ermine! We saw bald eagles most days and harbor seals swimming by along with loons, common eider and cormorants. We had glorious weather with temperatures never getting past 80 and one foggy day we didn't get out of the 50's! We hiked the trails of Quoddy Head State Park and Campobello Island where we saw minke whales, more harbor seals, spruce grouse, razorbills and scoters. Quoddy House on the Ocean is a lovely home in a beautiful part of Maine! Thank you Kate and Tony!
Since we arrived home from Quoddy House, we've been recommending it to any friend or family member that seems to have even a remote interest in coastal Maine. We were five adults (three sisters, two mates), there for a week in late June, and found it was the perfect place to have some time together. We've taken a number of sisters trips together over the past 15 years, and this ranked as the most serene.
The house is comfortable and homey, clean and well kept; and while it has only one bathroom, we didn't find that a problem. The comfy beds were a real plus. The location and property are pretty amazing -- we all lost hours to just staring across that large open meadow of wild flowers, with its mown paths, out to the water. And then there's the wonderful rocky beach that we could scramble down to, and where time likewise got away from us. I'm not sure I've ever seen our dog happier. The chance to be in a place that let one escape the electronic world (and where the impulse to turn on the computer didn't even raise its head) was refreshing.
On our second morning there, and the first clear day, we saw a whale breaching, several harbor seals, two porpoises and an eagle --- all from the back yard or beach! Mysteriously, there were no black flies, mosquitoes or biting flies at all -- so we were able to sit outside any time of day or evening without having to defend ourselves.
Campobello Island is both lovely to look at, from the house, and well worth visiting -- for the history, but especially for the trails. And there are endless other great trails in the area -- the Bold Coast Trail is especially spectacular, but the West Quoddy State Park trails (these start essentially right next door) we found plenty stunning.
Kate and Tony were traveling during our stay, so we missed meeting them, but Kate was great to deal with making arrangements, and she made sure we were well taken care of during our stay.
The area offers all sorts of good adventures, some quirky, some magnificent, and many of the small towns have their own very distinct personalities; but just staying home at Quoddy House and staring at the sea is a privilege. We absolutely loved it.
My boyfriend & I just spent a wonderful, relaxing weekend at Quoddy House. Our goal was to find a cozy, waterfront, dog-friendly rental in a scenic area and this fit the bill and then some. The ocean views are spectacular and we spent a lot of time just sitting on the grassy field watching the waves, relaxing and spotting Bald Eagles. The house itself was very cute, comfy, clean and had all the amenities we needed. Lots of great Maine accents & decor, too. We enjoyed visiting Quoddy State Park (which was within walking distance) as well as checking out some of the local shops & eateries. "Monica's Chocolate" is a must!
One of the best parts of this trip was how easy it was to arrange the reservations and how incredibly accommodating Kate (the home owner) was. She gave us helpful tips & suggestions of sights to see and things to do, as well as answered all our questions thoroughly & promptly and in a very outgoing, friendly manner. She even checked in with us afterward to ask how the weekend went.
We would definitely highly recommend staying at the Quoddy House! Relaxing, quiet, serene & spacious. Not overly touristy, yet close enough to lots of great landmarks and areas of interest. Oh, and our dog had a blast, too!!
As a non profit in the Lubec area, we were able to use Quoddy House for a day long staff retreat. It was a perfect location. The stunning vistas all around the house provided us with a wonderful space to work together, to clear our heads, catch our breath, and relax. The house provided a beautiful sanctuary. We were surrounded by comforts, views, and all the touches that make a welcoming setting.
We highly recommend this location for anyone seeking to get away and relax. The views out every window are breathtaking. Thanks, Kate and Tony, for making this peaceful place available to us.
