Great little house!

We rented this house for a NYE getaway - it was myself, my husband, our 8 month old son & another couple. It was perfect for us - great location. Short drive to the downtown area - we would have walked if it wasnt so cold out for the baby. House had everything we needed & was as described! We would stay here again if we visit Chatham in the future!

Resposta do proprietário: Wow - that was a surprise. It's difficult to know what would motivate someone to post false derogatory information like this. The house is exactly as represented in the pictures and is in fine shape. In recent years we have invested tens of thousands in renovations/improvements to the property. Some of the upgrades are: new kitchen, new tile, vanities and lighting in the bathrooms, leather sectional and Ethan Allen table in living room, new dining room set, replaced outdoor shower, and new downstairs beds. When a guest has a constructive comment, we address it. Example: A guest last season stated that the upstairs bedroom got hot since the skylights had no shades. We added blackout shades this offseason. This guest stated that the basement is a 'disaster'. The unfinished basement consists of 2 rooms. One is the mechanical room with the furnace. This room has a workbench and is used to store tools, paint, and various household items. It is not a room which rental guests have any reason to visit. The other room is an unfinished area which has a fold-up ping pong table which guests are welcome to use. Along one wall is a rolled up area rug and a few stacked boards which are exterior trim boards that will be installed this off-season. These items do not interfere with use of the room for ping pong. Every off season we try to address any deficiencies at the house, but obviously we can't do anything major during the summer. If any potential guest has a question about the condition of the house that is not shown in the pictures, let us know and we will answer promptly. Thanks. Karen and Steve S

Very enjoyable stay !!! I would give the property 4.5 stars.

Spent one week mid-June at this lovely beach home. Had a great time in Chatham/shopping, dining, exploring local beaches, biking, canoeing. Property is centrally located to downtown, three beaches and Lovers Lake where a canoe is provided. Especially loved packing a lunch and canoeing for the afternoon.

The rental party consisted of 4 adults, and 2 children under five.

The owner was extremely accomadating and very responsive to e-mails.

We would definitely return in the future.

Really odd turn of events - and one star views are blocked!

We are a family of four travelling from the UK and stayed at the property for one week in July. Chatham was a relaxing week after our whirlwind tour of Florida and New York. We went whale watching and stand-up paddle boarding with Adventure Chatham who were fantastic. Visiting the fish pier market to watch the boats bring in their catch and the delightful seals that follow them in was a real high-light. The Friday night Chatham Band concert was a lovely evening too. Chatham itself was very busy and restaurants were always full, so if possible making reservations is a good idea. The Chatham Fish and Lobster company on main street sell delicious food.

The house is well equipped and very private. It was nice and peaceful and we heard very few aircraft from the nearby airport. The air conditioning in the bedrooms was a welcome bonus on the hotter nights. The electrical circuit in the bedrooms was was a little odd and several lights didn’t work, and in fact a fuse tripped the day we left. The upstairs bedroom does not have any blinds so our children found it difficult to sleep well in there.

The owner was good with contact before and during our stay, however things took a very strange turn after our return. The owner deducted $44 from our security deposit and said it was initially due to a charge for currency conversion. However, as we had paid in dollars via the HomeAway site and had also paid £50 for the non-sterling fee we queried this with the owner and HomeAway. The owner then changed his story to say that had spoken to the cleaning company who discovered that that we brought a dog into the property and so extra cleaning was needed. This was complete fabrication and I struggle to find words to express how ludicrous this is. The house was left very clean, with all towels washed and folded, all bedding washed and in the dryer despite having to leave at 10am. As stated to the owner and HomeAway and for the record here; we never spoke or saw the cleaning company, we don’t own a dog, it would have been physically impossible for us to have travelled from the UK with a dog, and as my husband has an allergy to dogs we can never have one nor stay in a property that allows dogs! The owner stopped answering any emails and I am on my fifth telephone calls to HomeAway Customer support who just keep apologising and saying that it will be escalated, but I don't hold out any hope. Shame on both of you. A really sad end to the holiday

Resposta do proprietário: I appreciate the opening positive comments from this renter, she has somewhat mischaracterized what took place at the end of her stay. In short, this guest travelled from Britain and paid via credit card. A card processing fee was deducted from the payment I received, and I am ok with that as a cost of accepting credit cards. A fee was also charged and deducted for conversion from British Pounds to US dollars. I have travelled overseas and been charged these fees when I use a credit card, and I understand these are user fees, not merchant fees. I deducted this charge from the security deposit and returned the balance Monday morning after the guest left on Saturday. It should be noted that in my 12 years of renting this property, I have only made a deduction from a security deposit one other time, when I rented to a group of twenty-somethings and they left mounds of trash in the driveway. Almost immediately after I returned the security, this renter began emailing me complaining about the deduction and warning me she had reported it to the legal department at the website. I was contacted by the website, I explained the deduction, and they took no action. When the tone of her emails became even more negative, I pointed out that I believed she had broken the rental agreement by having a dog on the property, as our cleaner reported seeing one to my wife on the day the guest departed. This would not be material, except this renter stated that I 'changed my tune' about the Currency fee deduction and said it was related to the dog. That's not true. The Fee deduction was, and is, the currency conversion charge. I only brought up the issue of the dog in frustration at her complaints over the minimal fee deducted, and no deduction from her security was made because of it. Upon further reflection, I will refund the currency fee as a gesture of good will since I have already spent too much energy over a minimal amount of money. We will be adding shades to the skylights in the upstairs bedroom this off-season.

Great Stay, Enjoyed the visit.

We stayed here for the week and all of us very much enjoyed our time here. Very nice amenities, updated kitchen and flat screen TVs. We are two families that consist of 4 adults and three kids between the ages of 2 and 6. There was plenty of room for all of us. We also really enjoyed the private backyard. Additionally we took advantage of the very convenient location. Not exactly walkable to downtown but a very short drive. The owner is very reasonable and easy to get in touch with which makes things easier as well. If we come back to the Cape, we would certainly thinking about staying here again.

a fun weekend at the Cape

we had a fun weekend staying at this house on the Cape! It was very close to town and accommodated our extended family very nicely! We enjoyed a few long afternoons out on the deck catching up with old friends who were in the area. We didn't have enough time to check out the canoe (although glad to know it was an option) but enjoyed being so close to the many Chatham beaches and the wedding venue we were in town thing I would just make a note of again for anyone planning to sleep people (or kids) in the upstairs room is that there were not shades in the skylights and although this didn't impact us too badly (we have early risers) its definitely worth noting if you plan to use the upper floor in the summer for a bedroom...but all in all we had a great 3 day weekend on the Cape at this house!

Chatham está no "cotovelo" de Cape Cod. Devido à sua posição geográfica, há trechos perfeitas de oceano em frente à praia, praias mais tranquilas em Nantucket Sound, e uma praia da cidade sereno em água salgada Oyster Pond. Há uma reserva natural na ilha de Morris, onde você pode caminhar e passeios ver a partir dos blefes do oceano, ou fazer um passeio de barco para ver o grande população de focas fora Monomoy Island (eles nadam até o barco!). Downtown Chatham é uma mistura eclética de galerias, restaurantes e lojas de todos os tipos. Toda sexta-feira à noite, no verão, há um concerto da banda no pavilhão cidade.
