I had the great good fortune to rent the Cottage the first week of July; my stay there was nothing short of blissful, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The cottage is a rustic little gem of a place - immaculately clean and comfortably furnished. The porch is breezy and comfortable, the cottage open to the air, and the extremely well-equipped kitchen is ideal for steaming lobster on the stove while looking out on the water.
From its idyllic location on a peaceful tidal cove you see both the cove and the ocean so there's both a sense of protection from the sea and openness to the cove itself. The dock is a marvelous amenity — a serene spot to enjoy coffee in the morning, cocktails at sunset and for watching the moon rise in the evening. At high tide the dock is an inviting spot to dangle your feet in the water, go for a swim or to set out in a sea kayak (as I did) and paddle out to the ocean to explore the nearby Cape Porpoise islands, including the Goat Island lighthouse. For the ultimate in relaxation a snooze in the tree-shaded hammock on this beautifully landscaped property can’t be beat.
The village of Cape Porpoise is a short walk away, where there is a small grocery store, restaurants serving good food, and a busy lobster pound — a perfect place to watch the lobstermen off-load their catch & then savor the fruits of their labor. Or one can opt to make the short drive into Kennebunkport, with its bustling Dock Square and plethora of restaurants, art galleries and activities of all kind.
Finally, I can’t say enough about the Cottage’s owners, Joan and Phil. Warm and friendly, they could not have been more helpful or more gracious hosts. Their kind hospitality added greatly to my stay. It’s hard to imagine a more perfectly charming and authentically Maine coastal spot than their Cottage. I fell in love with the place at first sight and can’t wait to return.
The Cottage was lovely. The family that rents the Cottage are lovely. The view fantastic. Location fantastic. Cannot share enough positives regarding the Cottage.
Resturants in Cape Porpoise are all you need, for breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Activities are in abundance. Yet, once you are there there is no need to leave the porch.
I would recommend to anyone. It is perfect.
My family had an amazing time at the Cottage on Paddy Creek. It was beautiful. We are looking forward to future visits. Paddy Creek is a perfect water front location outside downtown and close to Goose Rocks Beach.
The cottage itself was very sweet. We spent hours on the screened porch, watching the variations in the tide, appreciating the sunrise, laughing, and feeling completely relaxed.
The property is tremendous, with a beautiful hammock, and wood swing which was perfect for our 5 year old. Also with the water front access we spent a lot of time kayaking and on paddle boards.
Thank you Joan for sharing this amazing place with others.
We loved our stay at the cottage!! It was so very peaceful and beautiful. Bonus that it was a quick drive into town and Porpoise Point. Our son loved it too and keeps asking us when we are going back to our "new house".
Would definitely recommend it to all my friends and family. We will be back!!!!!
We only stayed 2 nights; not enough to time to fully enjoy this cottage as I would've liked! Joan was very accommodating with our late arrival, having lights on in the drive and at the cottage for us. We found it perfectly clean; we slept well; we woke to beautiful surroundings and new experiences since it was our first time staying by the ocean.
The first day was a chilly, foggy day so there were foghorns echoing through the mist. We enjoyed watching the tide coming into the cove as we prepared for the day. We went into Kennebunkport to Mornings in Paris for coffee, then searched for parking and finally went with the paid parking at Federal Jack's instead of wasting more time driving around. We had lunch there, and browsed the numerous specialty shops and enjoyed the views, driving past the Bush place on the way back to the cottage. We went into Cape Porpoise to eat dinner at Pier 77. We thoroughly enjoyed the delectable seafood, live jazz, and courteous treatment from the staff and waitress. The harbor views with the setting sun were perfect.
The second day was sunshiny, and we regretted needing to leave these surroundings so soon (but had a deadline in MA in the evening, after doing more ME sightseeing.) If we come again, I would hope to stay longer to fully enjoy more of Maine, both at the cottage and in the surrounding area, bringing my paints and easel with me. Coming from central IL, it was a sweet taste that whetted the appetite. I didn't realize MA and ME were so forested with mature trees, everywhere. The winding back roads would remind mid-Westerners of Brown Co., IN. The difference is quickly realized when you sight the ocean, and harbors and lighthouses, and architecture of the majority of the homes, and pick up that's it's a bit different culture seasoned by the ocean in all it's moods. I loved how homes and streets are so well-kept, but retain individuality and historical charm. Because history is everywhere. :)
So yeah, take some time at the cottage to unwind with your family. It's a nice, private setting with nature literally at your door. No walking across a street or waiting on traffic to enjoy it.
