Our week stay at Sunset Cottage was wonderful! John greeted us right away when we arrived and provided us with helpful tips on fishing and biking. The cottage was well equipped with items for kitchen needs. The grill was perfect for grilling out each night. The multiple decks were great to view the beautiful sunsets and enjoy the weather. Red lounge chairs on the top deck were extremely comfortable. The pontoon boat was wonderful to fish from and use to explore the lake. The kayaks and paddle board were in great condition and perfect for exploring the lake. We loved that the cottage is pet friendly. Our two labs had the best time being able to go on the boat and enjoy the lake. The steps into the water made it easy to get in and out of the lake. The nearby wooded area is perfect for hiking (Cedar Lake) and walking a pet. We enjoyed the hot tub at night under the stars. Anne and Derrick
We just got back after a week at Sunset cottage. The lake was absolutely breathtaking and the view from the cottage was amazing. The cottage was just as appeared in photos. I was worried by some reviews as far as the kitchen and bathroom were concerned, especially since there were no pictures to view, but the kitchen was spacious. The fridge was full sized and fit all the food we brought (and it was a lot for 6-7 people). There wasn't a lot of cupboard space but we made due. The shower was small but if my 6ft 5 son in law could use it anyone can. Overall the home was comfortable and we enjoyed every moment there. The only disappointment was that we didn't catch any fish. We used the boat and kayaks every day as well as had bon fires nightly.
It was a great relaxing vacation.
(The drive way was steep but we did get down and back up several times, so don't be be afraid to use it)
We spent a week at Sunset Cottage on Trout Lake, and it was everything we had hoped for. The seclusion, view of the lake and pet-friendly accommodations were excellent! There are numerous hiking trails close by that lead to gorgeous waterfalls and cascades, and Adirondack Park is just a breath away. Thank you John and Donna for making our stay so enjoyable, we look forward to spending time in the North Country again soon,
I feel that there isn't enough information on what the property includes - I honestly was disappointed to find out some of the unknown's that I wish I would have known before booking the trip. 1st. We were excited to find out that when we were 2 hours early for check-in that the house was ready and we could get in early, that was great. 2nd. A forewarning about the driveway to the property should have been clearly stated that a 4wd vehicle is needed to get to the driveway - luckily for us - we had 4wd vehicles! But my brother's truck's 4wd had some issues getting into gear and he had a tough time getting up the hill and out and my dad's Explorer slide down the driveway slightly because he didn't put it in 4wd. Now...I took the review by the lady that had stayed here previously with previous trips to the OBX to heart because we've vacationed at the OBX for over 5 years now, and there is no way to compare this house to a house in the OBX. The property was in great shape and clean, no problems with that - the problems I had were the pictures/rooms/information that was left "unknown" for example the 1st floor sleeping porch with the 2 queen beds has no access to the house from the inside and it's simply a room with two beds and no storage...in the middle of the night if you need to go to the bathroom, you must walk out the door up to the next porch and then into the house. The kitchen, although well equipped had NO room for food/storage at all - we came planning to cook and not go to the store the entire week - food needed to be kept in coolers and piled on the small counterspace area and tucked into the book nook before you headed up the stairs...of course we made it work, but I just expected a pantry or some room at least. To get refills on the gas wasn't fun - we didn't know where to go and had to call the owners twice to get directions and drive the pontoon boat over there and make multiple trips to the "gas shed"to fill up. The bathroom included a stacked washer and dryer and a very small shower - which is fine - I just would have liked to have known - you can barely bend down to shave your legs and again no storage for towels, toiletries, etc. The bedroom at the top with the queen and single - the queen is pushed up against the roof and is extremely uncomfortable and don't expect to sleep on the pull out couch unless you are a small kid as that's not comfortable at all. The neighbors across the way were really rowdy, loud and shining lasers....
We stayed at the Sunset over the week of memorial day and have already rebooked for next year. We loved it! The view of the lake was amazing. We did not want to leave and were so sad when the following Saturday came upon us. The fishing was amazing. My husband and son were in their glory. We took evening trips out on the pontoon boat to see the sunsets. Can't wait to go back in 2014.
