Operating Manual for the Kaweah Cottage • Drinking water is from the chrome spigot in the kitchen sink. • Take the orientation tour of the land before hiking down to the River or to the Nature Preserve. The caretakers will point out essential safety and informational tips that will enable you to fully enjoy yourselves while staying here. • Dalila is a very friendly German Boxer. Please DO NOT FEED her anything – she is on a special diet. She is not permitted to go into the Cottage. It is up to you if you want to allow her onto the deck. You are free to walk on the local roads but remember not to trespass and do not take Dalila with you on those walks. She is welcome to accompany you anywhere on our land, down to the River or the Nature Preserve. • Wi-Fi: Our internet is via satellite and available on the GuestNet-2.4 network. The password is located in the diagonal kitchen drawer to the right of the sink. Email and web browsing are okay. We have limited data usage so please do not stream videos, movies or music. Outages are not uncommon and we cannot guarantee access to the internet. • Land Line Telephone: There is a cordless land line available 24 hours a day. It is located in the porch of the Old Homestead. Please return it when not in use so we can keep it’s battery charged. Usually someone is on the premises but if not, we will leave you with a phone number where we can be reached. • During the Summer, to prevent overheating the Cottage and fading interiors, the window shades on the east facing wall should be closed overnight and until the sun is above the roof the following day. Likewise, close west facing window shades in the bedrooms in the late afternoon. The ceiling fans are also very effective at cooling the Cottage. • Deck Sun Shade: The sun shade on the western facing deck is very effective at keeping the Cottage much cooler on hot summer days. Please lower the shade in the afternoons and when the sun drops behind the hill you can raise the shade to enjoy the view and allow for the natural breezes that circulate down the canyon. Do not leave it down overnight. Also, the ceiling fans on the deck are effective at cooling at night and minimizing flying bugs. • Do not use Air Conditioner System when the Cottage is vacant and it’s rarely needed at nighttime. When in use, please set to 79 degrees and low fan setting. If still uncomfortable, then incrementally lower the temperature. • The flashlight by the front door is rechargeable. Please keep it in the charger. Always use flashlights when walking outdoors at night. Skunks and rattlesnakes are nocturnal. • Keep the exterior doors closed at all times. There are a bugs and critters crawling and flying about. Do not leave food unattended outside or on the deck. Let caretakers know if critters are about. Keep deck gates closed to prevent wild animal visitations. • Bugs and Bites: Please try to catch in the Bug Jar, release or kill rather than squashing. Notify us if you get bit or stung. Try to keep the culprit for identification. Let caretakers know if bugs invade. We have safe ways to eradicate most pests. • Granite countertops in Kitchen and Bathroom: do not leave any acidic residues on the surface such as toothpaste, citrus, wine, or mustard which may damage the granite. Wipe up with warm, soapy sponge. • Do not use cleaning agents on anything other than mild soap and warm water. White vinegar (for glass and stove top - never on granite) and other cleaning agents can be found in the cupboard over the washing machine. • For laundry wash use a quarter cap or less of the supplied high efficiency “HE” detergent. • Out of respect for our chemically sensitive guests please refrain from using scented or perfumed products in the Cottage, including fabric softeners. Never use any insecticide sprays. • Turn off exterior lights overnight. They attract bugs and moths. The light over the bathroom sink is on a dimmer and provides a very pleasant night light when set to it’s lowest levels. • When using the propane BBQ, close adjacent windows to prevent smoke from entering the Cottage. After each use, sweep grill clean to prevent attracting bears and yellow jackets. • Place filled trash bags, recyclables and compost bucket on outside bench when they are ready for disposal. Do not put citrus peels, meat, corn cobs, or corn husks in the compost. The caretakers will remove them for you. • The Roland Piano is an electronic instrument. Handle with care. No beverages on top. • Smoking is not permitted inside or adjacent to the Cottage -- or anywhere else during fire season. • The Kitchen Oven tends to bake at about 50 degrees below the stove setting. Check the temperature gauge when cooking to make the necessary adjustments. • We are available 24 hours a day to answer questions, solve problems, assist. • Make Yourself at Home and Enjoy!

A country get away
A beautiful, quiet country home. We watched deer from the deck every evening. Good kitchen with many spices & teas.
Everything was great!!! Owner was very helpful and responsive. Only suggestion is to figure out how to get additional half or full bathroom. Would definitely recommend and return
We are so sorry you were unhappy with the number of bathrooms. In the future we would suggest reviewing the amenities listed on a rental before booking.
The Kaweah Cottage is a truly exceptional place. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were sad to leave! The cottage is beautiful and serene, surrounded by nature and great opportunities to explore for both children and adults. The setting on the Kaweah River is magical and provided so much fun for our family. The owners, Kathleen and her family, were so kind and a delight to visit with. They truly made our stay memorable. My children said they wanted to live at the cottage forever!! This is a really special place and we hope to be back again sometime.
It was perfect having Kara and her family stay with us. They were respectful, communicative, and incredibly clean. We’d love to have them back someday!
A great time
We had a great time at the property. The house was impeccable and immediately made us feel like we were at home. It was lovely and relaxing having access to a private river and the whole family loved swimming in the watering holes and enjoying the natural slides. Kathleen and Matthias were very welcoming and helpful with suggestions on how to enjoy the parks and surrounding area. Overall we had a great experience!
Stephen and family were excellent guests and we’d love to have them back someday. It’s so nice when someone just ‘gets it’. Clean, curteous, and communicative, couldn’t recommend them enough. We’re so happy they landed here.
Three Rivers retreat bliss
The Shangrila guest house and property exceeding our expectations. The space is comfortable, soulful and meticulously clean. The short walk to the river was a daily ritual that we thoroughly enjoyed. It was a privilege to be amongst the lucky list of guests whove experienced this transformative space.
The privilege was ours! Thank you for gracing this place with your presence. It was a joy to have you and Noah.
This is a wonderful place to take in natures bountiful beauty!
The beautiful large wrap around deck was perfect to hand out and view deer down in the pastures, we even had a couple passing by the cottage. We had visits from the super sweet tortoise cat "Babu", what a super personality! The swimming hole on the Kaweah River is spectacular! The cottage is very clean and comfortable, the kitchen has pretty much all you need. There is a great little market in the town of Three Rivers.
Kathleen was such a great host, very responsive and a terrific person!
It was delightful to have you! And I know Babu agrees too:)
