Fifth Year!

After renting Daine's house next to this one for four years, we decided to rent this house and invite my in-laws. Diane is helpful and friendly. We have never had a single issue or concern at either of the houses. This house is larger, easily accommodating two more people. The house has enough room for all of us without feeling as though we were on top of each other. The house contains everything we need to enjoy ourselves for the week, including fresh linens and towels. Having the deck was another huge perk. We ate most of our meals outside and used the deck to chat and relax. Many of the other houses are occupied by year-round residents. They are always friendly and quiet. Many of them remember us and stop by to say hello. The house is located on a dead-end street. We can play in the yard without worrying about cars going by fast. The kitchen has everything one can need. There is a small grill outside. We cooked most of our meals at the house. (Make sure you find your way to Tallulah's Taqueria!) After renting the properties for five years, we have found quite a few ways to enjoy our days. The beach is a quick walk from the house. We spent most mornings at the beach, fishing, playing, and climbing on the rocks. We are usually the only ones down there and enjoy the entire beach ourselves. We head to Mackerel Cover in the afternoons. Beavertail and Fort Wetherill are each a short ride up the street. We enjoy walking around, exploring, and Geocaching there. I enjoyed running there; the scenic loop is about a mile of beautiful scenery! Fort Getty hosts a fantastic farmer's market Monday afternoons. The Jamestown Library is in the same lot as my son's favorite playground. Check their website for events; we have attended story time, Lego drop-in, and a reptile show. We usually take one day to ride the Jamestown-Newport ferry to Newport for the day.

We enjoy spending a week at the house each summer. The first year we were there, our son was only two. Each year, we find fun, low-cost ways to spend our days. Having taken him to Disney, Canada, and Baltimore, this is without a doubt our easiest vacation! It has become a family tradition. We are incredibly grateful to Diane and Chris for opening their home to us!

The property and surrounding area was great.

Jamestown is a beautiful area. The house and property were great. Terrific location, water views, short walk to the water. Sunrise from the house or nearby rocks was outstanding. Location was walking distance to the Beaver Tail Park and Lighthouse, and a short ride to town. The property was well maintained, the the house had everything that was needed for a relaxing vacation. We will be back.

Almost perfect.

My family and I stayed in this little Jamestown cottage from July 19th until July 26th. The home had many of the ingredients for a wonderful vacation getaway. It was located in a very quiet neighborhood just 300 yards from the water. Although our view was partially covered by other houses, the view that we did have was simply breathtaking. My husband is an avid fisherman, and so each day we would walk down the road to the steps that led to the rocky shore. Although tricky to walk through, there were some nice, flat rocks for setting up beach towels and sunning ourselves while throwing out a line for a couple of hours. Heaven!! In addition, the location was perfect for our 7 and 10 year old children. The lack of traffic on Grey Gull Rd as well as the flatness of the road provided a perfect place for my 7 year old to finally learn how to ride her bike! In addition, both our kids made friends with the other children in the neighborhood. It was so lovely to see them running around playing soccer, basketball, tag and riding bikes until the sun went down and feel that they were completely safe.

While the location of the cottage was 5 stars, the condition of the cottage itself was 3 stars, hence the reason for the 4 star rating. The house is small but adequate for a family of 4. The kitchen area is tiny, but it didn't stop my husband from making some of his signature dishes, and there was enough room for everyone to spread out. The rug in the hallway/eating area was stained and worn, but the wood floors were in good condition. The one bathroom in the house is very small and the shower is a tight squeeze, which may be a little uncomfortable for taller/larger people. The lack of WIFI was a bit irksome, which we forgot to find out about from the owners before renting. Still, we found our way around that glitch. Overall, while the cottage is quaint, it was not completely "renter ready". There was a lot of dust bunnies under the beds and furniture, an allergy sufferers nightmare. The bed linens were worn out and a musty smell permeated throughout. The cottage did not feel clean upon our arrival, which is a shame, but easily fixable on the owner's part. As one who lives in an older home, I totally understand that old homes do get dusty and musty quick, but a biweekly deep clean can remedy this. With a few minor fixes, this property can easily become a true slice of heaven for vacationers.

A Little Bit of Heaven

My family and I were so pleased with this lovely New England cottage. It was larger than we had expected. The kitchen was well stocked and a joy to cook in. The wonderful water views from the dining area, kitchen and deck were a real treat. The house was very clean and the washer and dryer was a real bonus. The neighborhood is quiet and tranquil.

The island is great for walking or biking. The cottage is on a more secluded part of the island which is less than a mile from Beavertail State Park where there are amazing water views, walking trails and a lighthouse that you can tour.

The town center is very charming with several restaurants and shops. Newport is a ten minute trip over the Newport Bridge which is beautiful at night with all the lights. Other nearby highlights are South County with ocean beaches, reastaurants and much more.

One highlight was the art show in town. I was able to purchase a painting of Beavertail Lighthouse by a local artist. It is a daily reminder of what a gorgeous place this island is.

The owners are very responsive and readily available if needed. I would recommend this rental to anyone interested in a great New England vacation. We plan on returning every summer.

Special Place

Once in a while you find a special place that has the warmth of home and mystery of somewhere unique. Look off from the deck and see the sailboats racing and then sit down in the cozy living room and watch the fire in the fireplace dance. Jamestown is a magic place, both small town and sophisicated...come stay at this cottage to enjoy it.
