Spent an awesome week here with my sister. The castle was as advertised, but the view from the top with the changing Irish skies was amazing. If you're lucky enough to catch a sunset here, you will never forget it.
This vacation is not for everyone - people that have trouble getting around on their own, small children, and people that like to be close to attractions might want to skip this place. People that are reasonably fit, are adventurous, enjoy scenery and peace, and want an authentic experience - this is THE place. There are two wood-burning fireplaces (extra firewood can be carted in via a wheelbarrow from the out building, which is also where you'll find the clothes washer). The hot water tank is only big enough to support short showers (~10 min or less), so wash quickly. The kitchen floor is heated (as is the floor in the top bedroom), which was an awesome surprise after walking down two stories on unheated stairs.
You will need a car at this location.
The caretaker was fabulous - when we had trouble with our rental car, she was able to direct the rental company (with our replacement car) to the castle in the middle of the night (apparently providing GPS coordinates is insufficient for Sixt). She even gave us a lift into town for provisions while we were stranded.
The wind often howls around the castle at night, so be prepared for the eerie ambiance that the noise can produce. It's a castle, and it feels like it with the furnishings and the candles, sconces, and lanterns that you can light. We found everything we needed in the kitchen (we cooked a nice steak dinner our last night there - thanks again Nancy!).
While it's not centrally located, it's not a bad home base for investigating the Beara and Dingle peninsulas, which will upon sight give you insight into the true meaning of "breathtaking."
I would highly recommend this home for the right type of vacationer. Thank you so much to the owner for sharing this property with the world! It's a one-of-a-kind experience that we will never forget!
The castle is restored in a great and lovely fashion, it feels like a really historic building but also provides the modern amenity, that are well hidden or integrated into the historic structure.
We were looking for a quiet comfortable place. That is exactly what we found. You will need a car to get around. Small Pub without food close by, close by car, can also be walked.
We were so moved by this castle tower home. The marriage of it's historic charm with modern conveniences was perfect. It had it's own special ambiance and warmth. The incredible view and location added so much more to the experience. It was our favorite stay while touring Ireland.
The home is very comfortable. Waking up in the top floor is an exhilarating way to start your day. It's a bit of a hike up the stairs, which are steep and turn at the top. Thank goodness for the hand rails! The bathroom with the shower is also on the top floor. You do get your exercise in on this one, but it was so worth it. The stairs were part of the charm in my opinion. If you have any troubles with stairs this castle would not be a good fit. We would definitely recommend this for the adventurous types.
As for family-friendly, I'd say it depends on your child. We have an older child who did great with the stairs and respecting the home. The stairs would keep me from recommending this place to families with small children. I'd be too nervous and not able to fully enjoy the property if I had to constantly watch a little one.
I also want to say the owner was great to work with. She has good communication and very much on her game. It was truly a magical and special place for us. Thank you for sharing it!
Rincolisky Castle is a perfect retreat for a beautiful, peaceful and memorable holiday. We enjoyed our holiday in this charming, high-quality castle-tower with our four children (between 7 and 16) very much and we will never forget this wonderful, relaxing days. To sit on the top of the tower overlooking the ocean, the blue sky and the green hills let us do "nothing", just relaxing and admiring. The castle is beautifully furnished and comfortable. We enjoyed cooking with the high-quality Aga oven. Slow down and enjoy! Children had a lot to discover on this huge garden-ground and enjoyed the boots you can rent with the castle.
It was a refreshment and a "renovation" for body, soul and spirit. It was so good, I'd prefer to keep it a secret! A truly memorable holiday.
Last autumn we discovered this mystic and peaceful place in the most picturesque landscape we´ve ever seen in Europe. Swimming and walking in lovely beaches, whatever you do there you don´t want to miss it anymore. The castle, build on cliffs at Roaring Water Bay is surrounded by green fields. The stunning views on the islands and the vast sea render a real taste of being privileged and one wants to start writing a sketch or lyrics straight away. So we go again, this summer and find out how nature will be at that time of the year at the beginning of July. Thank you Stefanie, to let us the castle once more.
Ect..
