Our holiday experience was disrupted as a result of a booking error, which unfortunately impacted on the enjoyment of our holiday. We were obliged to take a holiday in a different property at short notice and adapt our holiday plans accordingly.
We selected Villa Talia for its location, setting and its contemporary aesthetic, so it was upsetting for us to have been informed that the owners wanted to use it and we could not. We were given 24 hours notice before we were due to travel. We had invested time and money in carefully selecting a villa that would meet all of our requirements and spent time and money making travel arrangements for and during our stay. As you explained to us at the time, it was fortunate that you were able to offer us any alternative, as it was peak holiday season. However, the options that were provided to us could not provide all the attributes that we had selected Villa Talia for. With more time to decide we may have chosen to cancel our booking and found an alternative place to stay that suited us better. It is true that we were offered a larger, more expensive property, we were a small party of 4 and we had access to only half of it, and - whilst the facilities were adequate - we found ourselves in a location that did not compare to that of Villa Talia.
On reflection, our biggest concern is that as an agent, a greater duty of care should exist in favour of the paying customer rather than the homeowner. We booked and paid deposit for Villa Talia in January 2016 , and in full by mid-June 2016. We feel that this should have been honoured, and the homeowners should have respected the booking that you had secured for them on their behalf. In this instance we consider that it would have been more appropriate for the owners to find alternative holiday arrangements rather than us. We put this to Massimo Villas but have not had a response.
As a supplementary note, it may be useful for the owners of Villa Sorbe (our alternative accommodation) to address the following:
A welcome pack would be of benefit to future guests... we were not provided with one, which meant that electrical appliances like TV and air conditioning and dishwasher were difficult to operate.
In heavy rain the roof leaked and a considerable amount of rainwater pooled onto the floor in the living area. a potential hazard, as well as inconvenient.
Zufahrt sehr abenteuerlich, bitte Auto mit genügende Bodenfreiheit.
I had longed dreamed of going to Sicily - so much so I thought little could ever actually live up to my fantasy. Having returned from two idyllic weeks, I am glad to say that I was wrong, on every level!
Villa Talia looks stunning on the website, and boy does it live up to the billing. You arrive to the house having met Margherita in Sant'Ambrogio Piazza (a picture-perfect village high in the hills along from the house itself). Up a seemingly endless steep winding road you finally arrive at a secluded house and are greeted with lush gardens. The short walk up the pathway leads you towards the house - and here you know you are in for something truly special.
Sandro, its owner, is an architect and has the kind of attention to detail and eye that most of us can only dream of having. There are retractable glass walls, light and space abounds. From practically every angle there is a sea view. And WHAT a view! Clinging high above the sea, you look due north towards the Aoelian Islands, a volcanic archipelago 30km north that are visible most days and look stunning with the sunrise. I could never tire of that view.
And so this the scene for the holiday. One of comfort and style (Villa Talia by far the best furnished and decorated holiday home I've stayed in, I think). A haven in the scorching heat (it reached 38 degrees for a few days), after a long day's travelling or just a long lazy lunch in the hills. The plunge pool, though tiny, was perfect for that final cool down before cocktail hour!
Cefalu is stunning too. Though busy, it's not stiflingly touristy. And the tourists who are around tend to be Italians, and there is no real sense of a package holiday destination here. At the right time of day you can have its streets to yourself. La Galleria is by far and away the best restaurant in town: amazing food, wine and staff. A real treat! Other favourites included Lo Scoglio Ubriaco (great for lunch with its balcony over the sea).
Away from Cefalu, head for Nangalaruni in Castelbuono for exceptional food, wine and lovely staff, or just 2km along to Sant'Ambrogio for great anti pasti and pasta at Osteria Bacchus or Chian’a Chiesa Pizzeria. This latter place is particularly enchanted at night, overlooking the Piazza. And the woman who runs the place is just lovely.
From whatever angle I look at this holiday, it was idyllic.
the house is situated on a hill above the sea.... it's amazing!
the house has everything needed: good kitchen (also outdoor-kitchen), 2 bathrooms, big windows, a lot of space outside, wash-machine, a wonoderful garden....
with the car - it's about 5 minutes to cefalu where a lot of restaruants, gelaterias, bars and a very nice beach are.
i hope we will be back soon :-)
