Breathtaking and beautiful

We explored this place with our 6 mo old son. This was a beautiful place to land at the end of a long day of hiking or mountain biking as well as exploring Newark Pond. We loved waking up to the loons and the serenity around us! Beautiful house and well cared for- thank you for sharing it with us! Sorry my review is SOOO late! We hope to return!

Just as amazing as the first time!

My husband and I stayed for our first Anniversary in 2012 and we returned this fall with our 1 year old son. We had such a great time! It was fairly easy to baby-proof as it was very clean and absolutely no clutter.

Thank you so much again to Linnea and Michael for welcoming us again and sharing their hidden gem!!

An amazing spot!

Location: if you are looking to 'unplug' this is the spot. It's remotely located on a pond with very few camps on the pond. The backside of the pond has no camps and is pristine wilderness. This camp has hands-down the best spot on the lake with beautiful, panoramic views.

Log home: the cabin itself is unbeatable. It's not a mansion but it's a log cabin built with every detail in mind. This 'camp' living in luxury. Beautiful fireplace, large windows facing the water, modern kitchen and living space, gorgeous woodwork, screened in deck and great outdoor lawn space. Top it off with satellite TV and a flat screen above the fireplace.

Logistics with the owner: dealing with Mike was easy. You can tell he cares about this cabin and wants to meet each person who rents to ensure it'll be left the way it was found. Logistics were simple and Mike even left us a gift of local brews in the fridge to kick-off our stay.

Would recommend this place to anyone looking to get off-the-grid and enjoy nature during their stay.

Beautiful BUT......

Property was as nice as expected and was the saving grace of the experience.

Communication with the owner was a nightmare. Booked a rental, was only able to book sat-sat (not specified in listing), I requested three times to book additional days to extend our vacation and finally learned two days before our check in date that we could go ahead with additional days. Owner stated he would give me a verdict on additional days, but never followed through with his word. I felt like I was begging to give them a few hundred more dollars.

I also had to contact the owner to inquire about directions, procedures, and steps to get to and gain access to the lodge. His response? "I thought I sent that." I received that response a couple of times when I requested info.

I also had to request back my security deposit. There was no word 11 days after we vacated if we would receive a full refund or not. I, again, had to contact the owner to push him to refund my check.. pretty ridiculous. And the kicker? It was addressed to a "miss" not the "Mr." that I am.

It was an absolute shame the communication was so lousy. It didnt ruin the vacation, just left a sour taste in my mouth prior to the vacation and left it sour once we left. Its unfortunate as we wish we could go back. But you wont catch us there under this ownership.

Resposta do proprietário: Courtney, Michael and I have had nothing but 5 star reviews D.B.A. Tall Tales Lodge, and prior to the new cabin we rented the antique school house for 20+ years with most families returning year after year. One couple from CT. has been staying for 2-3 weeks for nearly 2 decades. We do only rent from Saturday to Saturday during our busiest times as noted on our webpage, but we always try and accommodate our guests and their needs. During the spring and in November & December we will rent a weekend or a minimum of 3 nights during the week. If you read the many reviews, you'll see that Michael is very informative and tries to be as helpful as possible. He is always accessible to answer questions about the cabin itself or the many things to do and places to see in the area. He always calls the day of arrival to make sure the guests are happy with the accommodations and to find out if they have everything that they need. If he is not able to reach our guests on the first day he continues trying during the week just to check in. It has always been of the utmost importance to us that our guests enjoy their stay. It truly does make us happy to hear about everyone’s discoveries and adventures in the Kingdom and that they leave with wonderful memories of their vacation at Tall Tales Lodge. Let me end by saying that I am very sorry that you felt communication did not meet your expectations. Also, please forgive my mistake of addressing you as Ms. Courtney Carnahan and not the mister that you are. I have a niece named Courtney and since I never spoke to you, I just assumed…..Again, I apologize. Sincerely, Linnea

Incredible location to completely get away

Approximately a 10-15 minute ride off of Route 5A, this cabin is situated on Bald Hill Pond, which lies east of beautiful Lake Willoughby. When my wife and two very young daughters arrived, we knew we had a great spot for the week. My 2 year old was in awe at the sight of the pond when we got there. Inside, the place is immaculate. The entire cabin is constructed out of wood - you can see the attention to detail put into it.

Everything you need is available to you - just bring your own food and towels, and you're good to go. The pictures in the listing just don't do the cabin nor the location justice. I looked forward to waking up every morning to the cool, clean air while looking out onto the foggy pond at the loons.

I also did some fishing, albeit unsuccessfully in the provided canoe. Most of the time I was the only person on the pond.

There was no WiFi there and barely any reception which was slightly inconvenient for local research, but I realized in the end made the separation better. Even when we got reception in our travels I avoided the connection.

Also, with the 2 little ones, the grassy area led to some stairs to a beach area that was very shallow where they could play in the water.

We loved this place and can't wait to get back. This is a very special place that is likely amazing any time of year.

Fantastic vacation in an idyllic setting

When we first found this listing on HomeAway, we knew we were in for a real treat. The posted pictures of the home are beautiful but being there is even more magical. From the quiet seclusion, to the beautifully decorated and clean lodge to the beauty of the pond and all its wildlife, this is the place to stay when in the Northeast Kingdom. The owners are excellent to deal with and provide detailed information for the home and recommendations for local eateries, food shopping and activities. We found this to be very helpful, especially when travelling with children. If you love to canoe, kayak, fishing and hike, there could not be a better spot. We enjoyed getting up early and having a cup of coffee on the dock or in the nice screened porch then heading outside for a day on the pond. There really is no reason to leave except for some food shopping; although we did venture out to see some of the local towns like St. Johnsbury. They have very nice natural history museum there that our 2 year old son really enjoyed. There are many more positive things that I could say, but you need to experience Tall Tales Lodge for yourself. You won't be disappointed. We are already looking forward to staying again and listening for the call of the loons.
