The kind of place that inspires you to tackle that nineteenth century novel you've always meant to write. Beautifully, thoughtfully restored cottage, nestled in a slice of Vermont heaven. Deb is a warm, kind host who's provided every amenity; every nook and corner is a delight. Check out the little graveyard in the common across the country lane, and see the number of Revolutionary War veterans laid to rest there. Minutes from Waitsfield, but centuries away from all cares. Highly, highly recommended.
We stayed at this cottage in September for a wedding held at the Skinner Barn - which is very close! The cottage is absolutely lovely, and I swear the pictures do not do it justice. It is beautifully restored, and had everything we needed. We are a family of four with a 3yo and 4yo, and grandma stayed with us as well - so 5 total. It was very comfortable. I will say that you can hear anything in the house from any room, and it was a little hard to put the kids to bed because they could spy on us through the ornate heating grate in the floor, but that too was a really fun experience for them. The kitchen was cozy as was the dining/living area, and every spot was great to hang out in. The beds were comfortable, as was the bathroom. We didn't really use the tv except to play a kids dvd - which worked fine. We had some questions as to how to replace a burned out bulb and the owners were quick to return our call. Very clean, very well maintained - the property was beautiful. The town itself was beautifully quaint, as was the surrounding area. I would return here in a heartbeat, and highly recommend this cottage - especially if you appreciate history.
This was a great house. We stayed there Labor Day weekend while in town for my sons bike race. It was a beautiful house with a great yard. The kitchen was well equipped. The owners were a pleasure to deal with. We will definitely be back!
The below review (Peter from Toronto) pretty much says it all. For our small family (one 10 yr old son) this place was a perfect way of letting our son taste a small sample of life during simpler times. Loved the wavy historically correct panel glass windows, the wide plank original floors (slightly unlevel adding to ambiance), and the beautifully restored cast iron oven/stove. The small TV got PBS only which was great for us, but not much of a draw for our son -- perfect!! We found ourselves putting away the electronics and playing board games at night. Woke early in the morning and fried eggs/pancakes on the old gas stove that you light with a match. Don't get me wrong, most modern conveniences are there: wifi, plenty of heat, hot shower, etc.. And if you need anything more, just knock on the adjacent door and the owner is eager to assist. The only minor misses that would preclude us from returning with additional family and friends were the lack of a second bathroom ... and maybe a dishwasher. It was, however, perfect for our small family and we plan to return whenever we visit this region to ski Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. Also, don't miss the nearby outdoor public ice skating rink that our son absolutely loved. ~Brian & Kristeen
My wife and 2 teens stayed here this January while skiing. As it turns out the skiing was less than great but our little farmhouse but the trip worthwhile. It provided all the necessary amenities except a modern TV, which we seldom watch anyways but some may miss. A very well equipped kitchen for those that like to cook. One of the beds is a little soft but our flyweight daughter didn't seem to mind. Deb, the owner, lives on site and terrifically knowledgeable. Enough space to spread out in, where everyone can find their own corner. Would not hesitate to return and very highly recommended!
I just returned from a three day stay here with my wife and ten-month old baby - we had such a great time in the house and the owners couldn't have been nicer. The house is nicely decorated and has a welcoming feel from the minute you enter - old pine floors, rustic beams, slate counters, and furniture to match - and the place was spotless. Also, very close to town, Round Barn, The Green Cup, swimming, etc. Our son was in heaven!
Couldn't have asked for a better spot. Thanks for a memorable weekend stay.
